Select the image, go to Object - Live Trace - Tracing Options.
Then just click trace? or do i need to mess with the options?
Click Trace, after messing with the options. Just click the preview box, then start messing around.

I roughend up the quake star logo I made so it looks a little different....

I toned down the marble effects on the lettering and kept it simple.

This doesnt need to get too outta hand.....its going to be the banner above the booth and needs to make a loud statement and not focus too much on graidents/other unnecessary effects. IMO.

Let me know what yall think....im still working on this.....

So I guess if the walls are black this thing will pop with all of the red shirts and red posters. Should this be my final then?

I created in vector. I have it as .pdf for print right now. The file is only 1.4mb at full size and.... well there are no dots since it is vector. I can easily flatten it and make it a .tif but the file size scares me. Any half way decent printer will thank anyone who makes them a vector .pdf for this bad boy.
If you are doing CMYK black make sure you do a "rich" black. Meaning your ratio should be something like (25/25/25/100) for CMYK black. :9

If I change this anymore before monday I am just going to update this post. Good luck all! :6
    shlubdated.
may change the the font on the "est. 2005" Monday. can not seem to find that font atm. I have it at the office though.

wait, are y'all limited to just one entry per person??

I say if people have multiple amazing ideas, they should be allowed atleast 2, maybe three submissions. For all you know, the idea you don't like may be the one the reservist community at large loves.

As far as gradients, bevels, textures, w/e....This plotter has been used to print photographs of people at full size and they are photo/framing quality (of course, that is on a slightly different paper....but the valeron we'll use is still amazing as far as holding detail/ink).

now, We don't do t-shirts and all that crap, straight paper products....you'll have to get bigdog to chime in as far as making the banner fancy/pretty if he wants to use the exact same image for t-shirts and such.

Also, BigDog, we do AWESOME business cards....full color both sides for roughly 86/thousand (don't quote me...haven't been to the shop in a few weeks) and they come with this aqueus coating that makes em glossy like nothin else :-P

Looks like you're dealing with the typical vector acclimation period.

I don't mean to call people out on their artwork, but working in vectors for large scale projects is much different than running filters for a web based image in Photoshop. While I have to admit that a lot of these images look good in a web browser, I'm hesitant to put my support behind them when it comes to putting them onto such a big medium as this banner will be. Even these 100% vector images will take on an entirely different form when magnified 100x.

Again, I don't wish to start an argument or a controversy, but this contest might be a little counterproductive, as the artists involved will continue to make fancier and more intricate designs to garner the general public's support, and while the designs might look good in a 800x300 jpeg, the final, physical product might end up far below expectations.

Anyway, just my two cents, take it or leave it.
