Re: Vanilla or HC, pick a side.
I'm probably going to get hell for this but how much trouble has new players caused TPG when the server was in vanilla.. Mav riders were taken out by the previous update, PB does it job banning hackers, and Team killing isn't even an option.. plus vanilla is kinda my favorite because my scores are good now..

Re: Vanilla or HC, pick a side.
Without tks we have inane grenade (and other) spam fests. Enabling TKs encourages team play and develops skill.
Someone asked how it is that some folks in vanilla find it more difficult to take someone down. In other words, why is it that they perceive that it takes more effort/shots to take someone out? Another said, "why is it that others don’t appear to find it more difficult to take you out." The answers can be rather simple ...
A) you just aren't very good
or
B) you are used to bursts and placement (skill, along with avoiding tks), and anticipating the kill while the other is spraying wildly at you and shooting as much as they can in as little time possible ... shooting/nading/praying. (which could also be an excuse for option A … I’m not convinced either way). Your hesitation (having expected to kill the person) gives the other spammer the time necessary to finish the job and kill you.
That issue aside, it is my opinion that the lack of tks discourages team play (as if DICE hasn’t already severely damaged that!). What we are left with is little more than TF2, DoD:S or COD without tks. It’s a mob free for all. It plays like a cheesy arcade game. This also doesn’t set our community and our server apart from any other place other than we have our loyal regulars that are exceptional players. I don’t see how that increases the size of our community.
If the goal is to make life easier for our admins (admins that work hard) then tks should be off on all our servers. I am certain that would make things a lot easier.
… Presently, we can’t even say someone didn’t “follow THE call” since a single group of four can do whatever they want … especially with a SL or squad mate that isn’t on TS.
Personally, I am still adjusting to the lack of TKs. I still find myself hesitating to shoot/nade/rush because of my concern that I might TK a teammate or be the victim of a tk. I don’t know if I will be able to do that and I’m thinking I don’t want to try and do that.
Team play is what I loved about TTP and one of the reasons why I have remained with TTP/TPG all these years. It is unfortunate that DICE has screwed team play and that we might consider adopting a server setting that discourages what little team play is left.Last edited by Amador +JP2+; 04-04-12 at 12:22 PM. I do like that grief TKs are taken out in Vanilla. I wish there was a way that the game could do some kind of 'anti-grief' TKs... where if you're at your spawn and no enemies are around you can't TK someone... or no TKing someone in a chopper

Re: Vanilla or HC, pick a side.
I thought only one of the CS servers had no tks. But you missed the part about how people get banned for not "following the call." This is how team play is enforced on the CS server. As I said in my thread, DICE has made that irrelevant and non enforcable in BF3.
... there is a reason why I hardly play CS any more ...
In addition, everyone on the CS server has VOIP available to them. Once again, as I said in my post, only people on our TS server can communicate by voice in BF3.
It is also true that I find CS to be quite different from BF2/TF2/PR and others ... but that is a different conversation.
I left out L4D also, but then I've never played and likely never will play it ... this is also apples and oranges .... although I do think they have VOIP at least and only squads/teams of four.Last edited by Amador +JP2+; 04-06-12 at 01:40 AM.

Re: Vanilla or HC, pick a side.
I've got to throw it in for the Vanilla camp. Much more teamplaying. IMHO, also a big time difference in weapons selection; some were not worth using in HC mode. For medium and short range, if it didn't throw a lot of lead fast, ended up not using it. Shoot First = Kill First. With Vaniilla, choice becomes more of a tradeoff between anticipated situation, accuracy, and damage.

Honestly I barely recognize any teamplay like we used to have, I miss the old server full of regs. Kinda want team voip too. Too many squads running everywhere. Not enough direction, it's like bc2 all over again in some respects... expect allot less of me as I will be off in hc land.
Sent from my pocket.

Re: Vanilla or HC, pick a side.
I guess it depends on the population. When members of our core group (most of the regular participants here) are squad leading, we are smart enough to watch what other squads are doing and work accordingly. My team was doing it on Kharg tonight. One squad focused on E and C another focused on B and D/A another focused on C and D and so on. We were a little late getting into the groove as the team dynamics got switched up at the round change, but once we got rolling we started to gain ground. I agree it would have been nice to more directly communicate what was going on between squads, but over all, the team "clicked". So it happens, and it feels good when it does, thus i return night after night vanilla or HC.

Re: Vanilla or HC, pick a side.
I found the opposite. In Vanilla, I have to choose a gun that fires quickly. In HC, I just need a gun that is 'first shot' accurate. To give an example, L85 is worthless in Vanilla because it fires too slow so I have to go M16. In Hardcore, the time either gun takes to fire a few bullets (rather than 5-7 of them) is closer, so the added control and accuracy of the L85 is a more worthy alternative.
We can do better.
