I used to be heavily involved in unreal (the original one) back in the day and there wasn't much to stop the hacks. I got to know several of the hackers there and some of them got tired of it and started coding mods to counter the hacks. It was an interesting dynamic since i knew both sides. A new antihack would come out and my hacker friends would try and get past it and then the antihackers would put out another mod to fix the wholes in the other.
A lot of hackers that I talked to just wanted to see if they could do it...others did it for extra cash from people...and then some were just assholes and loved to Fuck with people...griefers if you will.
Very interesting article...I only got to read part of it so far though.

no it has not.
thats exactly why vigilance is always needed whether it come from the me or the high admins. i know that it is hard for admins to do their jobs when hacks out there are as customizable as the one talked about in the link and especially when you are being restricted on what exactly you can do for no apparent reason. however it should never come to the point where you think using a hack to catch a hacker is a good thing and that was not my intention when i posted this. what my intention was when i posted this was to make sure he admins have a sharp eye and raise awareness. with a hack like this it can be tough to catch and even someone here playing with us now could be running something similar (not saying that there is or anything just a possibility) and we might not ever know it.Last edited by SourceSkills; 05-08-12 at 12:51 PM.

If effective at prevention, sure! However, I highly doubt that will ever be the case.
I have always wanted to try out a wall-hack (but never have or will) just to see how people behave in certain situations and bring that knowledge into a legit game. With easier access to replays and such in many games, this desire has been lessened in recent years.
That is probably why the farsight rifle in the original Perfect Dark has always been one of my favorite weapons in any game.
