Re: Lets Talk Server Settings Again
I never said I wanted a separate server for AK. I said I wanted the main server to include AK. Yes I know the consequences of that so stop telling me, it hasn't changed what I wanted.
And now I'm not about the majority being controlled by the minority. But I can see how what I said makes you think that. I'm about TPG filling a nitch. The most popular type of server is a dime a dozen but if you pick a less popular type of server to host there are still > 64 players in the BF3 world to play on it. being Team Player helps with this since not everyone does it, but at the same time we are hindered by BF3 itself it making it as Team oriented as possible.
I'm about creating a brand for TPG, so that people know TPG is always hardcore or is always normal or always custom. Not changing back and forth trying to find what is the most popular so that we become just-another-gaming-community.
I'm for a post that says 'what kind of BF3 server do we want to be known for? and stick with it.' To me this post is, ZOMG THE POPULATION IS DOWN! WE NEED TO CHANGE RIGHT AWAY TO FIX IT! When really the reason that the pop might be down is because what I said before, there are a lot of new games and if I'm playing them instead then I'm sure many others in the otherwise regular BF3 global community are playing them too.
Stop freaking out every time the pop drops and relax.

The problem with creating a 'brand' with EA/DICE games is that every time they release a game (and seemingly every update/DLC the add) they change the variables or make it difficult to promote a specific brand. With BF2... you really had no choice other than server size and map rotation. 2142 gave us some variation with 2 different game modes. BC2... you couldn't really customize your settings much. You had a choice between vanilla and hardcore. Hardcore was more popular with our players as it was the closest to what we were used to. BF3 gave us more customization, but made it difficult to be anything but hardcore or vanilla. Our custom server settings were always the preference, but their server browser is crap. (Nothing new to an EA/DICE game, but this was worse than previous iterations.) We made the choice to the mode closest to the TPG ideal, which was hardcore.
Regardless what the cause is, without activity and exposure TPG begins to wither on the vine. The more activity the servers see, the more exposure TPG gets. Which brings us to why we are here again. You can't make a hard decision on how we run the server with the cost we're incurring on a monthly basis. It's hard to let servers that cost $85/month sit idle.

Re: Lets Talk Server Settings Again
Here's a fun fact for the server browser, set the region to USA/CANADA to remove servers with over a 200 ping. Then scroll down until you've loaded about 5 sets of server. **You know how if you aline by population, it shows only 3 servers with 64, then you scroll down through all the empty ones to find new full servers, I'm calling that a set. Everytime the list ends, you keep scrolling and new servers show up**
Then adjust to sort by population and you will now show all the populated servers from those sets at the top of your list.Dispatch the DooM
