Sniper?

Ooookay, hopefully this won't be quite as inflammatory as my last poll.

Here's my take on this and let me offer you my supporting evidence. Snipers are primarily a defensive class. The best example I can give for effective sniper squad play is on the fall of Berlin map, where if I'm playing EU I always always always start out as a sniper with RDX and APM.

I set defense on the first flag and plant RDX all over the flag area, and drop my APM's there as well. I then hightail it around into the building and cover the walkway above the flag from the hallway across the street. With a squad of ground troops, at least one engineer and a few assault/support, the sniper completes the package by providing both long range line of sight kills, spotting capability, and remote flag protection without the need for suicide runs.

I think that solo or squadded, snipers offer an excellent long range defensive solution, but properly played a sniper MUST make use of his explosives, grenades and SPOTTING ability. I can't tell you how useful it is to be able to spot at 200 yards. Properly placed, a sniper can be every bit as effective as a UAV when it comes to giving a bird's eye view of the field, not to mention the passive Fade Delay unlock that leaves the enemy location on the mini-map and hud for a longer duration.

A sniper who doesn't use all his options IS an annoyance, and a waste. Played properly though, they make an excellent addition to any squad.

Re: Sniper?

Snipers are snipers.

They can be one of the more helpful classes out there at times, if you know how to help your squad as a sniper.

It is often easier for some person as a sniper to camp, be a lonewolf, and not help the overall victory of your team.

Anyone who chooses the sniper kit, and can show that they are a necessary addition to their squad by helping them scope out longrange enemies, vehicles, apc's (etc.) is following the ideals of teamplay, no matter what their weapon or preference.

I myself, am a rushing sniper, I do not camp and wait for killing. I help my squad, tell them where I have sighted enemies, so on so forth. Help the squad help you, help your team help you, and victory will be justified.

Snipers are circumstantial.
They can be a useful addition to a squad, and an army overall, but I find that people that are Snipers from the start through the end of the round generally are not that teamplay focused.

Re: Sniper?

They are good in a defensive role, but I'd rather have pretty much any other kit combo than a sniper on, say, the titan. Or breaching an area. Sure, they can be useful for counter-sniping, but in the fast-paced battles of 2142, if you're sitting counter-sniping, you're generally not helping your team too much.

They are, overall, circumstantial. In the right situation, they are godsend, but otherwise they can be a waste.

They are circumstantial. In places in wide areas like defending on Berlin, Camp Gibraltar etc. They have their uses. When assaulting however, the Lambert is a necessity

Re: Sniper?

circumstantial....at best.

Here's how I look at it.......

When I come up on a silo being defended by snipers....I take that silo.

When I come up on a titan being defended by snipers.....I take that titan.

When I am defending a silo being "attacked" by snipers.....I keep the silo....and I kill the sniper who probably won't even come in range to take the silo (thus the "annoyance" statement)

When I am defending a titan being attacked by snipers......you best believe I keep that titan.

Against any amount of coordination.....snipers are worthless. A 2 man team beats a sniper, and in a game of infantry sonar, UAV's, and microphones.....in my immediate vicinity, a sniper will be lucky to kill 2 or 3 of my men before being found and eliminated, with no loss of territory or assest by my team.

Snipers.......get run over. They might kill a few people along the way......but they aren't going to stop a squad from taking a silo, from taking a console, or from winning the game.

Even a squad of snipers.......no question. The one things snipers don't have....and the one thing you truly need to survive....is the ability to fight while advancing and retreating. To lay down fire, as you take an objective. Snipers....moving and shooting....might as well just C4 themselves.

Now, a "sniper" with a lambert and assault weaponry....especially RDX/C4.......that's a different question. But a sniper....with a rifle.....is not a threat to bigdog, or anyone near bigdog, in any game.

ask.

Specifically equipped with one of the sniper weapons. I'd say the stabilizer is always a wasted slot unless you really ARE just sitting there going for long long long range kills. But the nature of the main weapon determines the nature of the kit. Lambert equipped recon are not part of this equation.

Sniper is a solo class unless the squad is full of snipers.

Re: Sniper?

Voted - Sniperes can be useful sometimes but vs a squad they are only an annoyance. Example is how many times have we played Suez and theres a sniper or two on top of those towers taking popshots while your squad is capping a silo. Like Bigdog said, they can not prevent a squad from taking an objective or eventually will be located and eliminated.

Had one the other night parachute down to retake the silo I capped but coming at me with a pistol. He was mowed down by my SMG. I should've knifed him for his stupidity. Their expertise is to hide far away and try to get as many people as they can before someone like me outflanks them and takes their tags.
