Re: Would you take her back?
There were a few differnet maps that were tried, karkand and sharqi I remember off the top of my head. Oman proved to be the map that primed the fastest at that time. There is nothing that says we can't try karkand again but I think people like priming maps that have all their "toys" to play with until a real game starts.

Re: Would you take her back?
Just for the record...
I was one of those who stayed with BF2 until its end-of-life at TPG.
We tried many map sets and orders. We tried 16- and 32-player configs. We tried many different maps for priming.
At the end, and recognizing that priming was always done by admins, we dumped the kitchen sink into the map list and relied admins switching the map to suit the situation. Once primed, we'd shift to the right place in the rotation and it ran on its own from there.
It's true that the people who showed up to prime very much preferred maps with toys - jets in particular - but we absolutely tried Karkand in the lead-off slot.
I don't think any magic map formula exists. The only thing that consistently primed for us was organizing ahead of time and getting enough regs to show up and get us over the hump. Once we had a primed server, we'd get random joiners and things would take off. The key was getting to critical mass plus 2.
I don't know about anyone else's efforts, but I had the most success by posting a BF2 'event' in the forums.
Good luck,

Re: Would you take her back?
Karkland just isn't a very good priming map unfortunately. It's fun to play, but its one of those maps that people have played sooo much, they tend to just grit their teeth and play through it. At least that's how I was.
Honestly, if we don't like Oman, then my next suggestion would be Kubra Dam, Dalian Plant, or Dragon Valley. We NEED air power to help prime. That means larger maps.

Re: Would you take her back?
I forgot to mention, Obviously "Oman" didn't work as it took forever for the primers to get a real game going on. So again, why not try another map.
But I digress. What TPG is running now is not a 64 slot, ranked server. If the equation has changed, then it is likely that the variables have as well. I suspect the lead map will be more trivial than it was in the past, at least in terms of attracting non-regulars.

In the meantime, I'm going to go get a couple games in so that this long recess does not cause me to embarrass myself too much.
