Re: Pilot bailing

I think pilot bailing is okay, because otherwise they would have to be inside the transport till it died.

If you give some warnings (or are about to ram into something), it's fine.

Actually, I can't think of any time it isn't "fine". There's always some reason they bailed, and generally the reason involves taking a silo, killing people, or attacking a titan. Is it annoying to spawn and die really fast because there was no pilot? Yes. But you gotta actually think about them; there's some reason they bailed, not just "I think I'll kill off everyone in the transport". It's bad for you because you spawn and die, but it happens, and I wouldn't hold it against the driver.

If the pilot bails while you're in mid-air, have some awareness and grab the pilot seat.

Edit: Sure, if they fly the transport just to get out somewhere, have people spawn, and kill them, it's a bad thing. But generally if you're in a transport, you're going somewhere, which involves getting out when you get there.

Re: Pilot bailing

It's not easy to have that awareness. You can't know when he's going to bail, and he won't tell you. I would never bail if I had many people in my air-transport, because points is the last thing I'll go for.

So no big deal, just stay in the air, or offload your troops.
Care less about points, and more about other players.

I hope that wasn't directed at me. I generally don't bail with a bunch of players, and get as pissed as anyone else when my transport has a pilot bail. But in 2142, it always shows which seats are occupied, and when I'm riding I always have one eye on that just in case I need to take over.

Play with me, though, and you'll know I'm all about winning, and points be damned. I'll comment if I had a bad round, but I don't strive for points and points alone; I put my squad where it needs to be and then try to do our job.

I have BF2, but have been playing 2142 mostly since I got it (I only have 1 CD drive, and disk-switching is a bitch). I don't play it much, though I'm trying to get into PR (though lack of rank-system is a turn-off for me)

Oh, and I meant I hope that wasn't directed at me, not "I hope that wasn't me".

It's ok. I do it all the time. Besides if the pilot bails that's the 1st thing I know. Are you seriously not going to notice the transport crashing to the ground or the pilot seat being greyed out. It's always the 1st thing I notice.

Re: Pilot bailing

why the hell would it be ok? If you have others in that transport or not why not land the damn thing so you, your squad, or other team members have a spawn point next to an enemy silo Isn't that teamplay? Or is it more like screw 'em they can go find a fav and drive over?

That isn't to say I haven't crashed many a time flying, but never bailed out if I was the pilot. I would rather have a spawn point somewhat close to an enemy silo so if it's hot I can respawn and go back at it.

Bailing out with no warning to others in the transport is bullshit.....plain and simple.

I agree, they should give a warning.

However, if you give some warning (or no one is in there), I don't see a problem with it. Not everyone can land the transport very well, and it's better to have all that transport on the ground than, say, splattered to the ground.

WTF...people are actually defending bailing out!? That's so f'd up. The purpose of a transport is TRANSPORTING not kamikaze jump out of the plane, grab some silo points, get killed anyway CRAP. Guess it's good i'm not a server admin, i'd kick everyone of the bastards bailing for non-emergency situations.

With that said there are times when you should bail. But, like the captain of a ship, your main concern should be PASSENGERS FIRST!! There is this little button that the bastards at EA gave us when you press Q, the bottom of the radio calls says BAIL OUT. If your transport is coming under heavy fire and you have no chance of escaping, it's your responsibility to alert your passengers, if they aren't paying attention and go down with the ship, that's one thing, but you bailing out with the first signs of some ricochet, you don't need to be manning the transports.

It's so freaking annoying to spawn into a crashing transport all because dude takes off with one intention: fly, bail, silo/flag capture. They make ground vehicles for that shit.

Re: Pilot bailing

i've sometimes use the transports at the end of titan rounds to quickly run for silo points when behind. however, when i'm in the transport, i always check the seats to see if any are occupied before bailing. there have been times when i notice that there are people inside, and hover over the silo, yelling "bail out" with the Q-down feature, and start to get shot down. i'll stick in there until the plane is almost gone, then they can keep it.

simply put... ALWAYS check for passengers.
