If we arm police, gangsters will think they all need guns to defend themselves against the 'pigs', so gun crime will increase. Things are fine the way they are in terms of arming police only in airports and in situations where the suspects are known to be armed (such as a terrorist attack). The actual problem is the anti-social behaviour, which can't just be tackled by slapping ASBOs on offenders - some even see ASBOs as badges of honour. We can't lock them up either, because of prison overcrowding. So it comes down to better education...

Guns are immoral, and our police shouldn't own them. Tasers on the other hand...

On a serious note, I don't think our cops should have guns. It would doubtless raise so-called 'accidental' shootings, would increase gun crime (as stated above by Revenge) and increase the stranglehold the police has on the people. The solution is a total ban for public gun use which is kept strongly enforced. That'd get rid of gun crime.

Like that "Accidental" shooting in NY where the officers fired over 50 rounds into an un-armed suspect.

Because of shitty training. They're actualy told to shoot until the weapon cannot fire any more bullets.

Train them like the military: Three shots per suspect, max. One in the leg, if they keep trying to kill you, one in the chest and, if they still don't stop trying to kill you, one in the head.

The police in the UK are traned to kill, I think.

Firing their weapon is meant to be a last resort, if it comes to the crunch the idea is to eliminate the threat entirely not make it angry.

I thought the military was two to the chest and one to the head.

It is...and if you're skilled enough, 1 to the head.

I was talking non-leathal-if-possible shooting. Not KILL THAT MOTHERFUCKER! shooting.
