09-23-13, 09:05 PM #1Taking a Break
I know you guys don't care, but this post is just so people don't wonder why I'm not playing anymore. The crashes are getting more and more common. Now, it's not even my drivers crashing, but the game itself hard locking my system. It's one of the few things that gets me mad and it ruins my drive to play. So, if Battlefield 4 turns out good, I'll rejoin then. If not, you won't see me in BF3 for quite a while.

I'm sure you've tried it already but I'll throw it out there anyway. I had that problem for a while and I believe it cleared up when I cleared my cache. I was having another problem as well and fixed it by making sure xfire was not open but I don't remember that solving the crashes.

When you hard lock, you're not getting artifacts are you? Does your computer's work light continue to flicker when you are hard locked (indicating a low lever driver or kernal crash)? Please decribe the hardlock exactly (is anything responsive, e.g. you still see a mouse)?

My event logs capture nothing of the crash events, only that something caused Windows to shut down improperly.
I also reinstalled BF3 recently, as in a clean re-install, and it still happens. I've thought that it's either bad RAM, which I don't have a spare set laying around to test; Sandforce dropping my drivers in the middle of loading something; or a faulty video card (this doesn't happen under high stress in other games).
Given that I can't fix any of these right now, my only option is to save myself the frustration and just not play."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

Here's the odd thing. I get two types of crashes with Battlefield 3. One is where the game fades to black as if the server crashed, but in reality the game is hard locking my system. Sounds will play normally for a short time after it goes black, but then loop very quickly. My CPU also goes into overdrive at this time, as evidenced by my CPU fan going insane.
The other crash is highly variable in itself. It has come in many colors, but as of late I get an orange screen with black lines running vertically down it. Sometimes people report still being able to hear me talk (read: rage) while the screen is like this, but I have no option but to reset. I haven't had this type of crash recently, but I was going to take a picture of it since it's so unusual.
In both cases, I cannot see my mouse or interact with my computer in any meaningful way. With the fade to black lock, people can't hear me talk, while with the artifacting crash, sometimes people can still hear me. I picked out the snippet of event logs around the time, if you want me to send them your way."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

Re: Taking a Break
I'll research possibilities today at work Allane.
Let me know times you can be on TS in the evenings and I'll see if I can meet you there for a session of brain storming about possible things to check. I've had my fair share of issues in the past. I'm usually home around 7:30 cst.****************11B*************** Look for Pathfinder75thB in TeamSpeak! ***************11B*****************

I used to get random crashes on my last computer while playing bc2 and (gasp) COD. The screen would sometimes go black and I would hear looped sounds. Other times the screen would pixelate and I could hear sounds for a while then it would hard lock. After much cursing and gnashing of teeth, I deduced through hardware swapping (including my power supply) that it was the RAM. This might be an easy place to start troubleshooting. Guess it's time to pull out the old memtest utilities (prime95, etc.).
