You guys are welcome to defend EA all you want. Lets see what all they fix. As of now I have over $100 invested in a game that is barely playable. The server and client crashes are compounded by the need to score more and more points to have a chance to get a better weapon and level the field. You get a crash, you lose your points. I probably lost 30,000 points yesterday alone. Not to mention being split up from the squad you were working with.

VOIP sounds like a cell phone moving from 1 bar to 0 out in the middle of the woods. You can fill in the blanks most of the time but in many cases critical info is lost. That said I guess VOIP in BF4 is better than BF3 FFS.

I don't agree on the weapons. The starting weapons are fine IMO and though I have unlocked several so far I haven't noticed much of a difference other than rate of fire and cosmetics. I have also lost a lot of points to crashes which has been really frustrating. The worst is when the server crashes right before the end of a round. They just rolled out an update to address server crashes this morning. Let's hope it works.

I am with you on the VOIP quality being pretty much garbage. I also find the volume of VOIP to be too low, and I have it cranked all the way up. It's also set to lower other sounds which doesn't seem to actually have an effect.

Even with the launch problems BF4 is a solid game IMO though there is plenty of room for improvement. I had already sworn off buying another BF game but I'm enjoying BF4 nearly as much as BF2.

No one is defending EA, we're providing our opinion that is counter to yours. Your experience is yours. Our experience is ours. I find the game very playable, but then again, I'm not expecting perfection out of the box. Anyone who is a veteran of EA/DICE launches knows the first month or so sucks. I don't have any game crashes, only server crashes. EA just issued their 6th server patch overnight. So, they're working on it and to say otherwise would be wrong. There is also a client update looming that has fixes for the sound issue and additional stability fixes.

Well here's how weapons work in Battlefield 4:

Rule of Thumb: The faster a weapon fires, the higher its base recoil. Every weapon also has a first shot recoil multiplier, usually x2 or higher. So a fast firing weapon has a high base recoil that gets doubled for the first shot, then every subsequent shot has the high base recoil, making them junk for sustained shooting at range. Slower weapons always have a low base recoil, and sometimes get a low first shot recoil multiplier, around x1.6. Combined with their low rate of fire, they lose out at close range to higher ROF weapon, but otherwise do fine at all ranges.

Delving into specifics, high ROF weapons are penalized more by having their accuracy reduced faster per bullet shot. Combine that with their high ROF, and you get weapons completely unsuited to ranged combat. Low ROF weapons have their accuracy reduced slower per shot, and thus are better at range.

PDWs are an exception to normal weapon rules in that they are not affected by suppression. They have the same MAXIMUM spread as the other weapons, but suppression does not seem to contribute meaningfully to their minimum spread.

Bullpup weapons are the oddity among all the groups. While they provide better hip fire and higher accuracy while aiming and moving simultaneously, they have lower base accuracy, and so are less suited for long range unless equipped with a heavy barrel. The only exception to the bullpup rule is the SAR-21, which is treated as a normal-grip weapon. Bullpups (excluding the SAR) also tend to have a longer reload time with an exception for the PDW-R.

Bullet velocity, which factors into how easy a weapon is to use, is individualized per weapon. Symthic.com has all the above information along with velocities per weapon. It's why the M16A3 in BF3 was so good, because it had the second highest velocity in the game, second only to the AUG-A3, which has the highest at 670 m/s. You might not think the velocity means anything, but I've used slow weapons vs fast weapons with similar ROF, and the slow loses most of the time.

So there. Not really intended for this thread, probably better as a mini-article as I can say much more, but oh well.

I am with Spaz on the weapons. The first 4 weapons I unlocked for Support were awful, so I kept modding up the starting rifle. Now that I have the MG240B, things are great. The class finally feels less crippled. So it isn't just the starting weapons... but it takes some time to unlock the better ones, which is how it should be. Until then, make the best of what you have. It isn't easy.

Re: Be careful what you ask for...

I unlocked the scar finally last night (I'm only level 8) and I don't know what round it uses but it FEELS heavier and punchier (.308 I'm guessing). It holds target better... Even with just iron sights I like it better than the first assault weapon.

I don't agree with nuck's criticism's much. But I've only been the recipient of a server crash twice... and a client crash twice. If I were one of the people that the client crashes on a lot I'd probably be a little salty as well. VOIP is more than passable. For me, after the first day or two it's been pretty good. Very little cutting in and out and I can hear people pretty well over the chaos. That said... if there's 8 explosions going off next to your head you SHOULDN'T be able to hear someone. I got no problem with that at all.

I still don't like air power... but that's par for the course in a battlefield game. And I think the AA in BF4 is more than adequate to counter it. And that's the first time I've been able to say that in a BF game.

So the only real complaint I have with it is that I suck and die A LOT. I really get a bit pissy after spawning in only to die 2 seconds later 20 times in a row. And not have a clue where I'm getting shot from. I was laying down on a rooftop in flood zone last night and a boat shot me. HOW DID A BOAT SHOOT ME!? %#@$%@#%@#.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

Sorry but I disagree. Symthic has a lot great info on these guns. They all have a purpose in life. Maybe it doesn't fit your play style but that doesn't mean it's not great weapon. I love the the starting LMG for support and I don't see myself using any of the others. Simply put I love high accuracy weapons and the UT-100 is a laser beam. I make sure most my engagements are at medium to long range. Occasionally someone gets in my short range bubble and that's fine I've got great aim so I ain't scared. I could grab the 240 and get 800 RPM but I prefer what the UT-100 offers. Quick reloads and pin point accuracy and I'm happy to give up ROF for it.

I think the LSAT is the best once you get some attachments on it.

It isn't the weapon it's the user in my opinion. You can make just about everything work for you and each one of us will take away something different from each weapon we use. Some of us will be better with a certain weapon and some of us won't be. That isn't to say I disregard obvious statistics but I still think you have to find the best thing for you and make it work that way.

About the game as a whole I can understand everyones frustration. It sucks when you crash and you are doing good and unlocked a bunch of stuff and we have all experienced it so don't feel like it's just you. However like Wile said they are working on fixing it and it has been noticeably improved over the last week. From my personal view point I know what a bad game is and I can tell you that this isn't a bad game. I couldn't tell you how many games I have played that have just been outright terrible in ever conceivable way and I can tell you right now BF4 is not even close to being one of those games. And sure you can all keep saying I work for EA and keep putting me down that's ok I don't mind. I already got to say I told you so and that alone makes those comments not really matter to me. This game has everything we could have asked for and it just needs time to get on its feet so to throw it away right after we get everything we could have asked for especially if you spent the money for it is a complete waste in my opinion. So I am being patient.

Also games are an ever evolving medium. These days I never see a game as finished. Some might say that is a poor attitude and we must expect a final product but I say that is boring and I want things to change and to keep changing so the game can stay fresh and engaging. I learned this from playing ArmA/DayZ, League of Legends/DOTA, Skyrim, and many others.

Re: Be careful what you ask for...

Ive been running the game on 3gb.. had alot of framerate issues alot of crashes. Definitly annoying at times. alot of my issue I believe is from running the game on 3gb (which will be fixed by next week thanks to deathgod). because of this I really cant complain with the crashes Ive had experience though it was annoying crashing twice on one map over the weekend. The game is still worth at least playing a couple hours each night.

Once I get the new ram installed we will see if I still have any issues with the game.

I do have to say I love the AA.
