    Interesting video about DMRs

Interesting perspective on DMRs. The comparison between BF3 & BF4 is interesting.

I really don't like the ones I have used. But I am still getting used to each gun separately too. I think mods can make a huge difference.

    Re: Interesting video about DMRs

Well, you guys know that I'm the resident DMR expert around here, and I actually have to disagree with LevelCap here.

The damage model was put into place because DICE was looking to emphasize weapon roles with Battlefield 4. I noticed this pattern when the weapon stats were first released, such as faster firing weapons getting a large per-bullet accuracy decrease than slower firing weapons, and the minimum and maximum accuracies of carbines, so on and so forth. Shotguns were intended to give every class a good close quarters weapon. Carbines were intended to give every class a good medium and close range weapon. DMRs are intended to give every class a good long range weapon.

The DMRs are not intended to be used in close quarters at all, and I rarely DO use them in close quarters. If I'm running DMR and I'm not caught off guard, I'll be using a pistol at close range, but anywhere beyond that, my ability to drop 3 hits on someone quickly and efficiently makes it a desirable weapon. People know that I go counter-sniping with these weapons, and that I'm very good at it. People also know that I can put them down at medium range before they get some good shots on me.

I think what LevelCap is missing here is that not every weapon class is going to be good for all situations. You wouldn't bring a sniper rifle to Metro, and you wouldn't bring a shotgun to Gulf of Oman. It wouldn't even be wise to bring a carbine or PDW to Gulf of Oman, simply because their accuracies are not good enough for the average engagement range on that map.

As for the damage model, I agree that the minimum damage is a little annoying. Bump it up to 34 and enable a 3 hit kill on those pesky snipers way the fuck out there with barely their heads peeking over their little rock. As for the max damage, 3 hits is not impossible to achieve, and a lot of people who find you in close quarters will likely spam from the hip, negating their low time-to-kill advantage.

Obviously, I don't use DMRs all the time. I want to use other weapons simply because they provide variety for me. I do love my Scar-H SV though, so I don't plan to give it up at all.

    Edit: forgot about attachments.

As for attachments, I find the angled grip to be the most logical, but for faster firing DMRs, a stubby is a better choice due to the high per-shot accuracy penalty that DMRs get. Otherwise, the slower firing DMRs can get away with adding an Ergo grip to improve your ability to shoot and move, as DMRs have a 1.0 spread while moving, which is extremely large. The Ergo grip brings that down to a more reasonable 0.5, which lets you strafe and shoot at relatively close ranges without putting a hole in the wall a couple feet to the side of your target.

Also, don't bother with a laser sight unless you're using the RFB or QBU-88. The non-bullpup DMRs have such bad hip fire accuracy that even the ergo+laser combination can't save them.

Also, never heavy barrel a DMR. 0.1 accuracy is more than enough to hit a sniper at 200 meters on the first shot, and the accuracy penalty you incur per shot wipes out the relatively small bonus you get from the heavy barrel right away. Muzzle Brakes, Suppressors, and Compensators are up to you and your gun.

I do think you have a good point on that there shouldn't be one weapon for all situations. The L85 is probably the closest all around weapon in my opinion but even that weapon won't do well at long range.

I think what they should do is at least dial down the recoil. Even in BF3 the recoil for the worst DMR wasn't as bad as it is in BF4 to me at least. I realize what Allane said maybe true. Placing the DMR's in the same bracket as say a shotgun or a proper sniper rifle would obviously make the weapon balance a bit wonky. So the damage model is ok the lowest damage could be raised to me but I honestly think that work should be done with the attachments and countering that recoil first because right now it is pretty bad.

Anything from 50m-250m is normally dead pretty quick. Even hitting people on the move for the 3-4 times it takes isn't difficult. If you try and play with it close range your will die. When I normally go into building or when I run up on someone, I break out the pistol.

Even snipers camping off in the distance are normally dead if they are laying down. 3 quick shots to the face and they are at the respawn screen. I use DMR's 90% of the time now. I really hated them at first. I then unlocked the QBU-88 and it was like a laser. Didn't like any of the others until I got to the ACE 53 SV. That is my go to weapon now on most maps.

I personally think the suppression effect from DMRs is a bit excessive. Especially when you have someone just unloading a clip quickly in your direction.

The opposite is true for the person wielding the DMR. If you've ever used a DMR and tried to shoot someone 100 meters away, ONE bullet from them shifts your screen about a foot, and starts it swaying. Every bullet that passes by shifts your screen a bit, over and over, making it extremely hard to hit someone with a DMR when you're suppressed.

I can't even hit someone firing at me with a DMR once they start firing at me most times...

Most DMR's are horrible. The only ones I can use are the QBU-88 and the ACE 53 SV. The others are a joke.

I have gotten away from sniping pretty much all together. The aiming in this game is kind of stupid. I will have the crosshairs on someone and it goes 3 feet high and the the left or whatever. I miss the aiming of BC2 with sniper rifles.
