When we do setup DLC content, do we include all the vanilla maps in the rotation as well? If so, I'm guessing other server are full, because all they have in the rotation is the maps for that particular DLC. This would eliminate any disconnects due to map rotation.
Just trying to make sure I understand what you are saying, so don't take this the wrong way. We are having a hard time filling our server(s) by casting the widest nest possible(vanilla), but you think narrowing it to the smallest net possible (DLC only) would help server population?

It would help server brand awareness, by promoting our name when the DLC is hot. Hopefully the name sticks and players search for the server when the DLC is dead.

Of course having the name stick is no issue. Shhiiiet, with the list of top notch team player members greeting newcomers with a; "Hey dickface180, welcome to Teamplayer Gaming! We try playing tactically here and that's only possible through teamwork and communication. So watch my back MUTHA FUKAH!"

    They should remember.

The root of the problem is with EA. Back in BC2, they changed the way the server deals with those people who don't have EVERY map in a server's rotation. It won't allow them to connect at all.

In BF2, as you will remember, EA added a map with one of the early patches. Highway Tampa. A player who did not have the map installed could play until Tampa came up, and then they were disconnected. As soon as the map was done, they could reconnect, and play until it came up again.

Since BC2, a player must have EVERY map in a server's rotation, or they are not allowed to connect at all....ever....regardless of the map currently in play. They either had all of the maps, or the were SOL.

That BS was supposed to change in BF4. China Rising proved that it didn't. We had the maps on day 1. By day 2, we couldn't get the server even half full. Pote and I pulled the CR maps, and viola! She was full within the hour. By not fixing the BS on their end, EA has once again made it a bitch to host their content. It has nothing to do with the Vanilla Maps, or how good the DLC is, but everything to do with the way that EA has decided to treat those players who don't have all of it. If they went back to the BF2 model of just disconnecting those who don't have the map currently in play, we'd be hosting ALL of them on the Main server....no question.

Yeah, it's the same on console. Each DLC has it's own server, none of the servers have everything. Not even multiple DLC on one servers.

Are some of us maybe just stuck in this mindset of what it used to be and haven't switched over what it is and how we are going to adapt to it? It is what it is, we can't change it here so what are we going to do about it?

I recall that being very not true in Battlefield 3. I was the one of the last adopters of Back to Karkand, and I would regularly join the server while we were running it. It would say in big bold letters that I would need DLC to play on the server, but you could join anyway. Sometimes it would even let me play Strike at Karkand even though I didn't have the DLC.

Now, that was fairly early on, so they may have changed it later in the BF3 development cycle to deny players access when they closed the window/agreed to the conditions.
