Where did this come from?
The discussion was centered around why the game has fallen off and Millwalljames had some great questions. I voiced my opinion, my interpretation of why things are what they are, and when asked if I wanted to be an Admin, by Warprosper I think, I replied that had it been offered 6 months ago I would have jumped at it. Again, no complaining, just an opinion and an explanation of why I couldn't admin. Now if they want an admin who "might" play a couple of hours a week through next May when hockey finally wraps up, I'm in. I think though that they want someone a lot more active in game than I am.millwalljames liked this post

Combination of these two, the gaming community as a whole isn't the same that it was 10 years ago. We've tried to adapt but sometimes the changes aren't compatible with teamplay.
Really, that's it.
Over the years games have been made smaller, easier and more appeasing. That thinking man's game and the need for reliance on other team members is slipping away. You can shoot each other from flag to flag and sit in between doing so. And most do. Long gone is the need for fast movers, tanks at choke points. so on and so on.
Battlefield has embraced the ethos that is EA. Make part game and sell the rest on. How they have gotten away with that is beyond me. Greed and ease of use has won the day.
I wait for another game producer to take up the mantle. I believe Battlefield is dead. BF 1 may prove me wrong, but we will see.
I for one will still play in the spirit and I know I can count on those around me to do the same.

Everyone wants to say games and gamers have changed, but I disagree. We were just sheltered from the harsh truth in the past. BF2 didn't require teamplay. I played on a 24/7 Warlord server before finding TPG, and visited it a few times after spending a lot of time on TPG. Nobody squadded up, nobody talked, and nobody worked together. Myself and 1-3 friends would dominate the server, and almost got banned, just by working together and communicating.
We always have been, and always will be, the 1% of gamers. When a server, like the old BF2, 2142, CSS servers, are 75+% teamplayers and less than 25% asshat it is easy to spot the asshats, and everyone is willing to remove them. When the server is 25% teamplayer and 75% asshat they are harder to spot because teamplayers usually clump to a couple of squads, and admins aren't as quick to discipline them because kicking 1 guy, or really a few, means they may not be replaced, or if they are just by another asshat.
TTP started because a handful of guys were willing to sit on a CSS server playing 2v2, and would kick/ban anyone who didn't play by our rules. Based on my experience we have sacrificed quality in order to maintain quantity.deputyfestus liked this post

Some of that comes from the autobalancer, which is broken as shit. It would be nice to see if when an admin is on and regulars complain about getting teamswitched automatically by the autobalancer to move them back to the original team and force the new player(s) that just connected to the other team. Or if there is an autobalancer setting that allows me to swap places with the new guy if I got bounced by the autobalancer instead of giving me the error that I cannot not switch back to my old team due to admin switching my team (when it was the autobalancer that did it).
