Going on the Defensive Going on the Defensive

    Re: Going on the Defensive

Well, just add to the defensive anecdotes, the last 3 nights I've played, I've always come onto the server right at Sharqi Peninsula.

For anyone who still doesn't understand, whoever takes and defends that TV station will win the game almost all the time. The only time that isn't true is when you can suppress EVERYTHING at the TV station with the MEC chopper and it's bang bang gun. If you just stay there and rock everyone's world, and keep the Hummer there from respawning, you're good. Outside of that, you're screwed if you're MEC.

Other than that, whoever has that TV station and defends it will win the game. Why? Because during assaults, it's easier to revive people in one location than dudes all over the battlefields. When incoming guys die, there's no way they can all be revived...so tickets are inevitably counting down for the attacking team faster than the defending, even if the attacking team has more flags. All it takes is 1-2 medics on the roof, a supply crate on the ground, and a medic right on the flag, and that station is completely defensible by 6-8 guys. I know because my squad did it alone 2 nights ago. That was the only flag we had for 150+ tickets, and we won the round by at least 20. Someone drops, you heal them. Tank gets damaged...back up to the supply crate and cover the ramp.

Ultimate map for teamwork in my opinion (and why I HATE playing it) is Songhua Stalemate. If you don't have people willing to play defense, you're done. Might as well sign off and come back later. If your teammates aren't playing defense on flags they capture, it's a game of ping pong...back and forth all over the map. There's no reason for it to be that way either. Cap a flag, spread out and wait for the artillery, converge back on flag and fight off the people inevitably coming back in to take it. Wash, rinse, repeat. Do that, you can't lose.

Again, I don't understand people who want to run all over the damn map instead of capturing and defending. The game becomes really easy at that point.

    Re: Going on the Defensive

as all of you know that squad up with me regularly, i love to play defense. i was in mabell's squad last night i think it was, and we held tv station for the whole round. i played sniper and laid claymores, never leaving the flag room. every time the enemy would climb the ladder or was lucky enough to make it past my homies in the hall, BOOM! claymore to the face. then ma would resupply me, more claymores down, wash, rinse, repeat. (i like that line) if i happen to get naded or sniped my friendly neighborhood medic was right outside the door to run in and revive me. that is teamwork and that is how you win rounds. if you want to defend then look for my squad and you will get your fill. oh yeah, don't try and snipe me from construction you noobs. i will get you every time. booya!

    Re: Going on the Defensive

I totally agree with going on defense, I enjoy setting up defense, I've done TV, Dock, and various Karkland Def's sometimes it can be a problem though.

If all the other squads are having a difficult time capturing/holding their flags, it will come to the point where you are pinned in, with no chance of an escape especially when the other team is well organized. If you have a good squad, and see the other flags dropping left and right, ya gotta try to go out there and grab a flag to help spread out the forces a little bit, which sometimes (depending on how bad a deficit there is) can turn the game back around.

There are a few people I dread seeing when I try to assault TV. When I see them defending I just shake my head, and politely ask for yet another revive, and another, and another..... and so on.

    Re: Going on the Defensive

We just did it again...4 rounds in a row. Two Dragon Valleys--the other team when Chinese for whatever reason didn't care about their refinery. They lost it. My squad planted our asses there...never left. Next round when we were Chinese, we sat there for 300 tickets. They made a pretty good push, and we were down 3 tickets until about 40 left...then we went up and never lost the lead.

After that, Sharqi Peninsula. First round, we were USA. Planted ourselves in the TV tower and never lost it. One of our snipers kept laying claymores and made a living of guys running up the stairs without looking. Next round, we (not our squad, but the team) took the TV tower about 30 tickets into the game. Our squad died, all spawned there, held it the entire time after that.

IamJohnnyRico sat up on top sniping, kept getting shot, I kept reviving him. Same thing with SuperG. They both made a living up there with their M95's. They got it done.

Defense wins. People who don't play it, lose.

Drax1950 I think his name was...I like him as commander. He really talks to you. He's great as a squadleader/squad-mate as well.

    Oh yeah! That's him.

Yeah, we had a pretty good squad last night for 4 rounds straight. It was pretty sweet. I personally hate Songhua Stalemate, which is why I disconnected as soon as that map came up. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have signed off for a few more hours.
