I was 5 years, 3 months active Marine. Communications/Electronics
3 years Texas National Guard. M1A1 Driver

I've done my time. Paid my dues. Earned the right to comment on the way the war is being run "over there" after being there for the previous attempt.

I was over there during 03/04. I'd still be in but they took my AFSC away from me and I didn't like the options for cross-training, did my four.

Thinking actually about going reserve here in the short term. If you'd told me I'd miss it when I took the uniform off, I'd have told you flat out that you were insane. I miss the uniform.

Miss the uniform some, yes. But mostly its the people you miss.

I was there for Desert Storm Pt I.

We had a 15 year later reunion last summer in St. Louis. It was like we never left. Of the 18 that showed up, only 2 went on and stayed in the Marines. 1 had just retired, the other was nearing retirement.

The bonds we formed back then are thicker than most you will ever make in life. Some still piss you off more than you could ever know, but you're still good to go. I still talk weekly to 2 of the ones that live in Missouri.
