I like to thank the squads I was commanding last night(first go round on Port PAC side). You made my first commanding assignment go very smooth and although we didn't win we came back from being down a couple of times and made it close. I tried to make sure and drop EMPs and Orbitals only on the head of the enemy and tried to keep the supply boxes were you needed them.
I also want to thank the squad that kept those trouble making recon guys clear. Me and one other engineer got them back up and running quick.
Before I only tried commanding offline but I always sucked at it. You squads gave me the confidence to try it again in the future.
Thanks, Brinkwolf

I hope I was commanding against you and it worked.
Seriously, glad to see someone else step up in to the big shoes of commanding. Its a totally different ballgame as you found out. And you probably understand a lot more clearly why we frown on people who try to command and fight at the same time. It is just too difficult to be an effective commander AND an effective fighter at the same time. One or the other will be neglected. Neglect the commander seat and your team will suffer.
Having capable squad leaders really can smooth the workload on the commander and lets him/her focus on passing relevant information and getting the squads to work effectively.
Be advised though, there are some who really like going after the commander when he is in base camp. Angel and Ceb come to mind immediately. If I am commanding, I always detach someone to go after their commander and will use sat scans and UAVs to locate him and will verbally walk the assassin up to the commander.

Which is exactly why I try to develop as many capable squad leaders as possible.
When the commander has more tools to work with, he can be more creative.
I may not have been the 1st, but once I was able to get squad leaders to hold positions I designated on Camp Gibraltar and Cerebre, those maps have become easy to win. Get the squad leaders to go defensive so the red dots congolomerate in nice little killing areas for grenades, rockets and oribitals.
Have a squad leader that doesn't follow orders and that one squad can screw the whole map for you. I wish they would take it a step further. If a squad leader can kicka squad member, I wish the commander could kick a squad leader.

Ceb does it a lot more than me (just not totally my thing). I do it when games are close enough that my team can loose me and I can distract the commander for a minute from laying down one more arty on the rest of my team... I also do it when we are loosing so bad that it hurts...
