Walker Etiquette

Hi all,

I've heard it mentioned DOZENS of times that you aren't supposed to exit your walker.

In my experience, if you are seperated from you squad or team, you take opportunities to jump out and fix it or toss motion mine bait to clear the way. I don't think I have ever had a walker stolen from me in this situation, but I have been killed by an unexploded motion mine and had the walker picked up by the enemy (I guess that counts).

So my question is, you are in a walker, stuck in position due to motion mines, with 22 health, repeated requests of 'Need repairs' go unanswered...what do you do?

Sit tight hoping that someone comes to your rescue before you take Pilum in the ass? Or do you hope out, toss a mine bait, and do some quick repairs to get the walker back in action with the risk that someone might snipe you and steal the walker?

Lately I have chosen the first route since people seem furious when a walker gets stolen...it will respawn eventually, so better than risk it being stolen...just curious about your opinions...

There are times when a walker has to be abandoned, but it is almost always worth it to ride it out till that pilum takes you down if there is a chance enemies are close by and could steal it.
My opinion is better to grab it and die immediately then let the enemy have it!

Die in a blaze of glory!!!

I'll let the enemy have it and then destroy it myself.

And if someone yells at you for losing the walker, chances are they weren't doing all they could to help said walker.

Always deny the enemy.

The mines are armed against YOU being in the driver seat. Chances are, the engineer who placed the mines is nearby. He can repair your walker if you jump out. Heck, I jumped in to an APC 2 days ago that the enemy engineer was busy repairing. I said a quick thank you as I EMPed him and machine gunned him.

If you are frozen by mines, just sit in the upper gun seat. It swivels faster than the main gun. It disarms the mines. Gives you a higher POV. If that engineer is killed, the mines will eventually time out and disappear. If not, he may try to step where you can see him and kill him for inconveniencing you in the first place.

Meantime, tell your squad leader to pass on to the commander that you need a supply crate at your location. Be explicit so the squad leader can make sure the commander understands where you are at.

I've knifed a guy repairing one before....

I'm very cautious when I throw bait or repair, I go to a deserted area an repair and for bait, I always have my bait out when i enter a vehicle...

Re: Walker Etiquette

Negative! Negative Negative!

You never get out of your walker, period, unless it's about to blow up! If you are pinned by motion mines, just sit there and do the best you can! You never ever ever get out of your walker for anything! If you are low health, get a supply drop and if theres no commander be the commander for a second and get the supply drop on you.

Also, act like the walker doesn't respawn because if you don't then you'll be like "Eh I got another chance, fuck this, I'll just get it while it respawns". As a tip from the greatest Walker Operator in 2142, do not ever ever get out of your walker ever!

This is also great advice...thanks guys!

On that note...I've always tried to remove the mines with the ordinance removal tool...but I'm getting the idea that the bait is really the quicker way to handle a silo or path covered in them...next unlock for me...
