Hence, also, the big clip, as it's a supressing weapon with increased lethality to any group of fools that are silly enough to charge an HMG user through a choke point when he's 20 feet away.

I'd recommend finding a good spot that watches a choke point from medium distance and laying into anything that tries to come at your defensive position. That was exactly what the HMGs were designed for.
It is excellent for suppressive supportive fire from a prone position.
Good points, but you can run-n-gun with a Ganz just as well as any other gun in this game. It makes just as good of a weapon for offense as it does for defense. I would even say more so than some other weapons because of its clip size. It's just a matter of practice and experience with it.

I think probably the most situational thing you can do is go prone in 2142. I very rarely do it, because they purposely made it have drawbacks to prevent the dolphin diving crap that ruins BF2. I would much rather crouch behind a wall or some other obstacle than go prone. I only go prone in situations where I have to, like being on the Monorail at Liepzig, or if for some crazy reason I'm sniping or something. Other than that, its much faster to go crouched.

The other thing about going prone in 2142 is that it gives you a fairly hefty accuracy penalty which takes a few seconds to go away, whereas crouching gives you an immediate bonus to accuracy, and is very nearly as stable as firing from a prone position with an HMG. Also, I agree that the Ganz is slightly too slow-firing to aim for headshots, but the two default LMGs are great for headshots because of the increasing accuracy and high rate of fire.

How can you increase your kills with an HMG? Easy.

    Use a Lambert Carbine.

ah, the lambert, it fills my life with joy! but really, a HMG is good lying prone if your going to be staying there for a looooong time. otherwise always crouch, unless your point blank, then just spray n pray. also try the otus squad leader unlock, if your on Defense of something that cant be capured(titan D for example.) lay down a sonar and one of those babies and you can see a lotta stuff up above you.
but really, LLLLLLAAAAAMMMMMMMBEEEEEEEERRRRRTTTTT. excpet when you fight a Voss with it :P that usually doesnt end well. Hell anything vs a Voss at close quaters except a pop gun or a shotgun doesnt do that well.

Ah, the ganz! Remember my mantra: BURST YOUR FIRE (repeat as necessary)

A 3 to 5 round burst, repeated ad nauseum, makes you the horned-helmeted Death Dealer. Don't try to rock and roll. Sure, you'll blow one or two guys away. Then, wait for the steam to clear from your overheated barrel (and probably die gurgling in your own fluids). Burst fire will garner many kills, and much accuracy. You get the advantage of walking your rounds up your target, plus you don't overheat, and your accuracy is not so detrimentally affected. Crouching also helps

I second the bursts. I used Ganz for a couple rounds tonight, and really am starting to like it. It puts some serious hurt down if used right.

Re: bringing a knife to a gunfight.

The last patch made the Ganz better than either LMGs. They both had thier deviation changed to HORRIBLE and thier recoil increased.

They are both adjusted in the beta patch that hasn't been released yet, to be better, but not quite as good as they were.

I used the LMGs untill this last patch, when I switched to the Ganz.

I agree completly with the OP that it is very frustrating to be rocking and rolling on someone with a HMG only to have them stab you with a knife. Unlike the other weapons Backing away while shooting them is not an option.

However at long and medium range it works very well. If I can keep them at range I will win against any weapon other than a sniper rifle or Assult Rocket. You can cover areas with it very well. I have found a few spots on a few maps that if I get to them, I know I am looking at 10 to 20 kills until someone figures out where I am and wears me down or calls in artillery. Once you get in these places toss out your infintry Sonar and Turret to watch your back.

I am REALLY hoping the patch goes live soon, so I can see if the LMGs are worth going back too. I like thier better acuracy and higher rate of fire. I feel the heavier damage from the Ganz is not worth the trade off in RoF. However keep in mind Unlocks are not supposed to be better and always the obvious choice. They are only supposed to be options for different play styles
