    BF2, a lesson in frustration.

So I got a copy of BF2 tonight and here's how the evening went.

    1. Installed game

    2. initiated patch download

    3. Internet went down

    4. (an hour and a half later) Internet came back up

    5. Downloaded 1.21 patch (500+ megs I think)

    6. Installed patch (took forever)

    7. Started game. (clicked icon) Game asked for original CD (which was in the drive)

    8. Repeat step 7 forty times

    9. Game starts up

    10. Account created

    11. Log into account

    12. Game hangs

    13. repeat step 11 and 12 about ten times

    14. Game loads, account connects.

    15. Click "Multiplayer"

    16. Server list begins to populate

    17. PC Hard locks (BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP coming from my headset)

    18 Hard reboot

    19. repeat steps 14-18 twice more

    20. give up for the night

    21. come here and bitch while steam updates....

told ya. BF2 is all messed up sometimes.

check your driver versions for your graphics and sound. I know there have been releases for soundblaster and ATI cards especially related to BF2 since it was released.

I'm 100% upto date, and playing this game is still a lot of trouble.

Once you get in, find a server with no lagg and with prople using thier micc's and a commander who knows how to play - then find a team that wont punish you for TKing when it's not your fault the jackass in the jeep hit your jeep, and you got the TK punishment...and then you get banned and repeat.

All that contingent on you being able to properly bind your keys....good luck.

the TK punishment system in that game is straight-up retarded. i think the fucked-up TK system is part of the reason why teammates can't set-off your landmines/claymores anymore.

which, in turn, causes it's own problems...

but, back to the TK issue. people can and will intentionally cause teammates to kill them, either by running in front of a speeding vehicle, running after nades, jumping in front of teammates shooting at something, all that shit. it's not the players job to determin if the TK is punishable/forgivable. it's the admin's job. EA, let the admins do their fucking job. revamp the TK punishing sysyem, and put in a spec mode.

no, just eliminate teh damn TK punish system all together. As you said.... let admins do their jobs, not stupid ass equations that punish bad and good players alike.

Can't even think how many times I got banned frmo a server automatically becuase some jackass crashed their plane into my squads BH, and since I'm the BH pilot, I get charged with 5 or 6 TK's. All at once.

The other problem with the BF2 system is that the ranking shit limits what admins can actually do to make the game playable.

    No reserve slots.

    No real powers.

like you said, no spectator modes.

    No "all talk" type situations.....

I mean, yeah, shit like that flies on non-ranked servers......but who's gonna be cheap ass running an un-ranked server?
