To buy or not to buy...
I am considering buying BF2142. I just wanted to know if it would be worth buying now. Is the popularity declining? Any new expansions or versions coming out soon? Really and truly, will this game continue to thrive on ttp, or would I be wasting my money?

Re: To buy or not to buy...
I could just about guarantee that you'll get at least a solid month of gametime out of it. From the limited information I have on the server stats, I can tell you that the place is packed during peak hours every single day. Weekends are obscene.
Really, I'd say it has (bare minimum) at least another 3-6 months of being that solid. I'd say you buy it.

It's worth buying. Popularity is not declining; TTP's server is going as strong as ever. It's pretty much BF2 in a different time period and some ingame upgrades that, while not huge, are very nice. More unlocks, squad beacon, commander stuff, Titans, etc.

You can get it for $30.00 and playing it on TTP is great. Play it anywhere else and you will get bored of it after a month or so.
I pulled down the QuakeWars demo yesterday and jumped on it for about 20 minutes and I can say that I won't be pulling anytime away from 2142 to play this one. Point is even though the game is almost a year old it still has legs. Hopefully a few more maps will see the daylight with the 1.4 patch which liven things up even more around here.
Now stop your dilly dallying and get yourself a copy!

It won't be shut down in 6 months, barring something huge (I.E. Patch 1.40 kills kittens). Look at BF2; it's been around ages and is going strong.
You will enjoy it, and it will stay. Its only "competition" at this point, of a similar genre, is Quake Wars, which is a joke to the sort of people that TTP wants. No voip means no teamwork.
