I commander should always do this to a area in which a squad is approching.

Re: New commanders
I gotta say, it makes me laugh when squad leaders tell me I'm making too much noise because I talk too much. As most of you know, when I command, I make sure to talk to everyone as much as possible.
I feel communication is VITAL during combat. It allows the squad leaders to get a better feel for what is going on across the battlefield so that if something changes suddenly, for example, a flag being taken where they are normally spawning in at to assault somewhere else, the squad leaders can make a snap decision to change orders I issue in order to assist in the defense of a flag somewhere else, or re-assault the flag we just lost. I expect squad leaders to be able to make decisions on the fly, so to speak, to help the team, and not expect me to see everything, everywhere, all the time. I try to jump all over the battlefield as much as I can to act as overwatch/big-brother to the squad leaders on the ground, and warn them of obstacles/mines/ambushes, while spotting as many of the enemy outside of UAV coverage as possible (near friendly troops of course, it wouldn't make sense to spot the enemy nowhere near anyone because nobody can do anything about them).
I sympathize with the valid complaint that it's hard to hear your squad, who could from time to time, all key up at once, AND have the commander talking at the same time. I wish EA would upgrade the com mo so the commander could talk to whichever squad is currently selected and then have a "Hotkey" to allow the commander to talk to all squad leaders at the same time in emergencies. I also feel that there should be some way to allow only one person in a squad to key up at a time so that everybody doesn't have to try to understand two or more people talking at the same time. This also would have the caveat of making the squad leader have the "actual" com mo key, squashing all other transmissions as he/she is the Squad Leader, and should have control over the "squad net".
As for new commanders, I really think there should be a standard of having to be active on the server for a specific amount of time before being allowed to command. In this way, people who are not only new to the server but also new to the game, can see how a commander is supposed to command. I feel that the level of responsibility should be the same, or as close to, as real life, where your experience dictates your level of responsibility. One should have to learn to be a teamplayer First before being allowed to lead a squad, then learn to be a commander by learning how to be a leader of a squad. Of course, just like real life, there would have to be exceptions for the people who have spent time in paramilitary organizations (military, law enforcement, etc) who already know the basic leadership principles and techniques. This would prevent a LOT of the people who get on the server, apply for commander, then jump in a chopper (as I saw last night, yet again) or jet or tank and decide to be a run and gun commander and think the only thing they have to do is pop a UAV every once in a while, drop some arty to save their own ass, as well as supply crates and the occasional vehicle.

He and I am sure about this. Pretty much the only reason I use scan is to place the arty and uav. After that, it only gives me a feel for what they're up to and from where. From there, I can freely spot the enemy that I saw, but YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE RED DOTS TO DISAPPEAR. Otherwise, your just taking up net time and deafening people for no reason.
