Question for the admins about maps and rotations...
So because this server has such a great community base I was wondering if this would be possible or just a major PITA that it too much work for what it is worth....
Q: Can we do a monthly poll in the BF2142 forums for what maps should run the following month? (Top ten) This being a breakdown of the maps in both Titan and conquest modes; Northern strike and regular?
I honestly rarely use any of the other servers but I kinda get bored with the same maps since we normally get a crash just after one of the northern strike maps load up so we are limited on what we are playing on...
Assuming you think this might be something we can do I would be more than happy to put the poll together so you don't have to mess with it.
Thanks guys,
TexRyker

Re: Question for the admins about maps and rotations...
The map rotation is set up to get butts in the seats and keep them there. Minsk and Verdun are statistically the most popular maps which is why you see them leading off the rotation.
It definitely sucks that 2142 crashes the server at least once a day and causes the first couple of maps to be replayed.
With that and the enjoyment of the players in mind the map rotation is changed around ever month or 2.

Re: Question for the admins about maps and rotations...
All of the maps that are used, as well as the order in which they're played, are set and don't really change. However, they're rotated around every month or so.

Re: Question for the admins about maps and rotations...
these questions have already been answered in many other threads about 242 map rotations.
Our map list is set up to provide the most number of conquest, titan, and NS-assault lines maps as possible, in a rotation that spreads them out evenly, or as close to evenly as possible.
That means Titan, then conquest, then NS, then titan, then conquest, then NS.
We study game-monitor statistics for the 2142 global server population, determining which maps are the most and least popular, and then spread them out as well, leading the maplist with the most popular and connectable map (which is minsk-titan), to draw connections and get the game going quickly.
Though it may sound temporarily fun to say "let's play sidi on conquest, it's awesome"....if such a statement was true, then game monitor would reflect that map's popularity in conquest mode (and it does not).
So, our map list is set up to keep balance and diversity. Titan maps are titan maps (with the exception of verdun, which is to prevent an exploit being used to destroy the titan). Conquest maps like gibraltar and berlin, of course, remain conquest because theyhave no other option. There are only 3 NS maps available for assault lines mode, so all 3 remain that way.
This gives us a balance of 4 or 5 titan maps, 4 or so conquest maps, and 3 NS maps.
The 2142 server is well within the top100 of ALL 2142 servers, even with our NS additions. That makes us, easily, one of the highest ranking, if not THE highest ranking NS-included servers in the world.
If it aint broke.......don't fix it.
locked.

Re: Question for the admins about maps and rotations...
and as for server crashes......in the last 5 gaming sessions I've had, the server has crashed once. There's nothing we can do about that, regardless of the map list. 2142 is going to crash, until EA makes it not crash.

Addon Map Changing In Game
I'm not sure if this has been fixed yet but last night I noticed that Valve didn't give support for making custom map changes in the voting system. How are people suppose to vote or change map while in a server? I know this won't be much of a problem in Campaign or Versus but in Survival, people like to switch to different maps once they get bored.

I have never tried it, so I will take your word that it doesn't support it. I don't recall seeing anything about this recently. Have you looked on the Steam forums yet?
