    Colorizing InGame Kill/Radio/ETC Messages

Found this on another forum and I implemented it and I love it so far

This ONLY changes what you see.......your text does not appear in color to anyone else

Info can be found here: http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/ma...ad.php?t=31158

Inside that thread is a link to his older version which has images of what it will look like (so that you can see if it is something you wish to implement)

Basically there is a file that he has for download

** Prior to replacing your original file -- make a copy of it or rename it **

Then copy his file over to your "Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Localization\" directory, after making a backup of the original (simply rename it).

    And thats it

This does not affect / trigger PB in any way as it offers a player no advantage etc etc

    Happy coloring!

    Frau

I would avoid using this though, for 2 reasons :

    1. it's obnoxious and confusing to determine command chat text, or some goofball that screwed with his game files

    2. It breeds hostility as most other players suspect people who altered their files of hacking other files , if you want to get the instant contempt of honest players , by all means do this thing so you stand out like a sore thumb , don't be suprised when your own team shuns you and ignores you. :2

    Re: Colorizing InGame Kill/Radio/ETC Messages

ummm no one sees this at all..its on your end only
for your visualization only...a localization modification on your end only

it would be a hack and not allowed if you colored things for others to see
    which this is not

it makes reading things easier as it spams by

also -- it doesn't alter player chat / commander chat

look at the snapshots of what it does indeed do to kill messages etc

I believe sinshadow is thinking of the people that turn thier Names orange.

It does not change how anyone sees you nor how you see any other player or thier names BTW This only effects the text spam from kills and what not. Only way someone else sees it is if you take screen shots.

    Re: Colorizing InGame Kill/Radio/ETC Messages

Yeah...I figured you thought that this would change in some way what others would see in game
However as far as I can see/tell it does not. If it did EA/PB would considered it a hack
(I've seen quotes from EA about coloring -- when I find it again I'll post it up)

This change is purely local for your own personal viewing pleasure and is mainly a UI enhancment so to speak ( I like it so far )

It makes certain key words in the kill / spotted / silotaking / console blowing msgs stand out a lil bit more
on your screen only. None of this affects what other users see at all. They still have the default coloring scheme showing on their screen...

This file that is being changed is a CSV file. Open up this file in Excel so that you can read it more easily and see the "columns" of data (remember do not save any changes when exiting excel).

It has a lookup key (which has to be unique) called StringID.

What I assume is that the BF2142 server sends a msg back to you..in regards to what is occuring on the server......and the code on your end, looks up in this file to find that key so that it knows what to display on your screen in a more readable format

Based on your language settings, it then travels the matching key row and finds the applicable language column to get the visual text to display to you

Below is a sample line from the CSV

[color=blue]stringID English txt to show on your screen
AUTO_RULES_cptaken The enemy has taken control of |C1001#CPNAME#|C1001

When the server sends to your system AUTO_RULES_cptaken
it finds the row and grabs the english column data and displays on your screeen "The enemy has taken control of #CPNAME#" (#CPNAME# is probably a dynamic variable for the capture point in question)

The part that was added to that was the coloring code: |C1001

So on your screen it would show: The enemy has taken control of Silo 5

There are tons of lines in this file -- they did not color all of them -- just the main ones

Hope this helps explain it more
    Geeky Frau out
