Errant squad members?
I would be lying if I said I didn't strike out on my own on occasion in the hopes of accumulating a few more kills, but the question of how do you get your squad members to stay focused? I lost half my squad after we were trying to defend East Dock so we could at least keep the goliath spawned on Bavaria, but I had folks running all over the map. I reiterated my orders which would ensure at least we would keep something, but lets face it - standing around waiting to get attacked can get boring especially when the tickets are rolling down. I thank laggyNgroovy for letting me lead the squad and I would like to think I am not a completely crappy squad leader... Things got a little better on the following maps but I still had some guys off lone wolfing it versus supporting the squad.
And I am sure this has been answered before but its late and I am lazy. Just ask Nikita - he will confirm my laziness...

Re: Errant squad members?
Well, the thing that I find works is if people are drifting away, tell them in no uncertain terms that they need to stick with the squad. They should know by now that playing on TTP means that they have to follow orders, so lay down the law, harshly if necessary. Try to sound like you know what you're doing, and 90% of the time people will believe you even if you don't. If they're still dicking around on their own, boot them from the squad.

Re: Errant squad members?
Be confident. Stay to whatever you say and get on anyones case that doesn't follow you. When I squad lead I'm usually pretty laid back as long as everyone is nearby the objective. For when I need my squad with me I learned a little trick from ...bigdog... that involves yelling very loudly at anyone that decides to be a fucktard and wander off by themselves. If yelling doesn't straighten them out give them the ol' boot.

Re: Errant squad members?
Well for one, You can get on mic and state your order again and add "this is the only warning next comes a kick."
then lock your squad and if they ain't following orders say "(players name) I am kicking you for failure to follow orders " then kick him from the squad.
Most other players will go " damn yuri ain't playing" and will start to walk the line.
If they don't rinse and repeat.
Just make sure to invite any other non squad members you see, besides the guy who wasn't following orders of course.
What happens is this :
1) If they don't join another squad soon enough; they will get warned by an admin and eventually kicked.
2) If they join another squad and pull the same crap they will get kicked from that squad.
3) revert back to 1
4) They realize they better follow orders! and act like a team player
Congrats you just help someone become a team player!
Eventually if the guy mouths off enough and or to the wrong person he will get kicked and maybe even banned depending on what he says.
The point is to make the non-team players and lone wolfer's lives hell.
We don't want them here.
We want them to become team players
or
We want them to go away and die some horrible lonely death.
thats how I handle it at least.

Re: Errant squad members?
Leadership is 10% skill and 90% telling everyone what the hell to do.
Just make sure you give verbal orders and have orders set on the map. As long as you talk like you're the leader, you will be. And not just in 2142; in pretty much any multiplayer online games (and, hell, even in life). If you take the helm and act the leader, people will follow.

Re: Errant squad members?
benadorf is right people fall into 3 categories.
Shepard's ( squad leaders , commander ) = Leads the sheep guides them and protects them from the wolf's
sheep(squad members , squad leaders as they answer to the commander) = stick together, go where they are lead and do what they are told.
wolfs ( Non squaded people , non team players , haxers , cheaters) = do their own thing , prey on the sheep and try to get as much as they can with out giving anything back.
Be the Shepard!

Re: Errant squad members?
You can use my patented phrase:
"If you're in my squad, you need to be at (x). If you don't want to follow my orders, that's fine, but you need to get the f*ck out of my squad right now."
Sharp, I know...it's actually surprising to me how quickly people screwing around when there's a specified objective makes me angry.

Re: Errant squad members?
I love it when the regulars get bored and run off....there were a few tonight I was chasing around instead of them chasing me around :P
But then again they sorta have the same idea of where to head as I do...except when we start losing the place we were supposed to be defending and I get chewed on by the commander. But I deserved that for not being a butthole and laying down the law tonight.
Be firm and get a little bossy if needs be....I usually take it easy unless they get too far out and I start harpin on them to get back to the position....if I don't see a change then ill flip and get loud if I have to for a few mins until we are there as a squad again. It only takes one outburst usually that round to get cohesion again.

Re: Errant squad members?
It depends on the player to me.
If its a squad of regulars who aren't staying on point with the squad leader, it depends on what we are trying to accomplish and how they are trying to do it. Sometimes it's ok and even though folks are a bit spread out, we are all doing what needs to be done. If we aren't being successful I will do whatever it takes to force people to spawn on green and focus. A lot of it is just how you talk to people. I've only ever had to boot 3 people out of my squads since I started playing on TTP.
