Re: NOVEMBER MONTHLY MATCH BF2 or PR?

    Voted.

This is why we don't need to try to take the place of Vanilla (the i don't like change mentality) but should do our own PR match. There are enough regulars that come to the PR Server that we can get them to the website to get a match going. While i understand you all like Vanilla, sometimes it's worth throwing in something different where you can't just outrun someone to a place on the map.

In PR one major thing everyone needs to realize. The game is based around the Control Points, whoever has the most gets a good bleed out going, then you throw in the fact that the offensive/defensive tactics mean you have to work your ass off to take a position. You can't just run up to any old CP and take it. You actually have to fight tooth and nail as a co-ordinated team to take a designated position. It actually forces you and your team to fight together to either take or hold a position. Strategic movement tactics, co-ordination of Armor, knowing where the enemy is without him knowing where you are. You need to rely on each other to get the job done. I can't understand why someone would not want the challenge of playing PR. Playing different maps, learning to fight a better way. Then incorporating those tactics into Vanilla the next time you play. It's amazing how much PR will make you a better player.

Well i'm off of my soapbox now. Hopefully you'll at least try it once. Give us a shot to do it and see if you like it.

Why dont the PR players have their own PR match so the rest of us BF2 players can continue to enjoy our monthly matches!

Re: NOVEMBER MONTHLY MATCH BF2 or PR?

If your saying Bf2 is lacking in tactics your a fool. Most people don't want to play with the tactics that bf2 is supposed to Incorporate. Thats why we have monthly matches, Its so the commander knows exactly whats going to happen. He knows which points he is going to keep, How he is going to disable the enemy, Where to position the units to gain the upper hand on each map. The best part is knowing that everyone is going to follow your orders. Thats why we have bf2 monthly matches, It may not be PR but its the vanilla players version of how the game was meant to be played.

Hell thats also why we have TTP bf2, and if your saying that TTP bf2 doesn't have any kind of tactics then that doesn't explain why a side of regulars can wipe out a side of non regs EVERY SINGLE GAME by 100+ tickets.

I'm sure there are some players on PR who act just like the guys we have in Bf2. The problem is the PR server isn't as populated and you guys are mainly getting regulars all the time. So you usually don't get that random non team playing guy who goes around the map like some kind of rambo trying his best to save the world from the entire enemy force solo.

NOVEMBER MONTHLY MATCH BF2 or PR?

Re: NOVEMBER MONTHLY MATCH BF2 or PR?

I don't think anyone is saying that tactics do not play a part in vanilla BF2 - because we all do know that coordination of squads, teamwork etc. obviously contribute to why one team creams another team. But with that said, lone wolves can still be successful on vanilla, enjoy their game (if you can call it enjoyment) and contribute to a team winning or losing.

However on PR, the developers have made it extremely difficult for a lone wolf to be successful in anything and it is unlikely that a lone wolf will last long on PR. As a lone wolf, it is just plain unenjoyable due to the fact that the kit's, vehicles etc.that can be used, are simply unavailable if you are not in a squad.

Re: NOVEMBER MONTHLY MATCH BF2 or PR?

    Couple things...

It would be cool to have a PR match. But I wouldn't suggest using it to take the place of the regular monthly matches for a couple reasons.

    1. Not everyone has it. In fact, most people don't have it. Which wouldn't be a big issue since it's free, but there again lies the problem. If no one has it, no one knows how to play it.

I've said this many times before and I'll say it again. PR is a different game than BF2. It just is. Not everyone is going to like walking for ten minutes only to get shot outta no where, and have to respawn after 45 seconds or more.

It takes a different type of mentality to play that game than vanilla. Because of that, it won't translate very well to the monthly match-ups we are doing with vanilla.

    2. The rounds are REALLY long. I know a great deal of them are not as long as, say, Al Basrah, but 6 hours on one map is ridiculous. The regs that play on it often may be able to make those rounds go faster, but anyone who just picked up the game is going to wonder why it takes so long to finish a map.

So you say, "Well lets alter the server config like we do Vanilla". Well, there's an issue with that. First, we'll need a practice server, and I'm not sure we have the space for another instance (because we aren't altering the config for the public instance). PR isn't setup on our host, so we have to manually create the instance, which is a pain in the ass. The only person I know that has set this up is Bird, and I'll let him tell you how complicated it was.

The sheer logistics of setting up another server for the specific reason of having matches is simply daunting. I wouldn't want to do it. It's not like Special Forces, Armored Fury or Euro Force, PR is a game unto itself, not just a BF2 mod. Mod is actually an insult to the work those guys put into making that game.

So... set one up if you want. But the monthly matches are for Vanilla. Good idea though, and hopefully we can set one up so that we can have both matches. One Vanilla, one PR.

Vanilla, PR is to much work for a monthly match..... Also it cuts down on the confirmed list.

I download PR and didn't like it. Too long for me. I can see why people would like it, but I have way more fun in the Vanilla server.

I think that should be a different event than the monthly match.

Re: NOVEMBER MONTHLY MATCH BF2 or PR?

I would love to call you out by names but the negative vibes on PR, didn't have their facts straight. The Reason they don't have their facts straight, is because they don't play it.

We played a match on a different version of PR and had one of the Best Matches ever.
You really see who the players are that know how to adapt and stay alive and spot the targets and mark the targets and destroy the enemy and NO,,,,,, the maps have never taken 6 hours.

You guys need to stop exaggerating... If you don't know, don't be talking smack about it.

As far as people would have to download it, Yes, you are right, set it to download before they go to bed and in the morning, you have it for when you are ready. If you can't do that, then you are a lazy chump.....

As far as the skill level required, You gain skill by playing harder games, but as your learn, it gets easier and better and then you can totally smoke them in any thing else that you play to a Far Superior level.....

Playing BF2 and not advancing your game, by just playing same easy all the time, well it is like wearing diapers in BF2.... You outgrow those and Man up in PR.

I promise you, the guys that get called hackers in BF2, whether they are good or a Hacker,,,,,,, Come watch him get a very humbling experience by your lower than average PR player.....

Also, we can have a Match in PR, SF, BF2.... Play something you haven't played.

I guarantee when "Project Reality" V0.7 is released, we can all join that for the first time without seeing any of the maps or knowing anything about them and the Outstanding players, no matter what games they play, that really know how to work with a Squad and a Team, His team will dominate.

We host many games, but if you don't try to get better by working with better players and harder environments, then you are only going to make it through the easy stuff.....

    A scared puppy can't eat.
