Helicopter kill with a Sniper rifle

I read in the description about the M95 rifle that it is so powerful, it can penetrate the canopy of a helo. Every once in a while I get a hankering to play sniper. I think it was Christmas, I was playing Kubra Dam and the squad I was on was defending intake. I was up in the crane and spotting and trying to shoot targets of opportunity. I saw some guys spawning at lower dam and then making their way to the chopper that spawns right above lower damn. The chopper starts to take off and I shoot....I hit the helo, but I am not sure where...The helo turns and starts heading right for me...It was a straight shot. I shoot and hit the pilot. The helo flies out of control and crashes. The game says I have killed blah and blah (makes me wish I was faster on the whole screen shot thing). It was awesome!
Anyone else shot down a helo with a sniper rifle before?

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but you can shoot a helo down with a pistol. As long as you do any sort of damage to it right before it blows up, you get the kills. The M95 does about 3/4 of a bar of damage with a single shot. With enough pistol or machine guns shots, you could take down the chopper.

He shot through the glass and killed the pilot. The co-pilot was not able to switch seats and save the helo. He didn't blow the chopper up with the sniper rifle.

Nice shot. I have picked pilots out before they got off the ground, but rarely in flight.

I really miss this feature. I wish 2142 had it in place.

I have not sniped a pilot in flight, but I have nabbed a few on lift off. i have gotten in flight kills by hitting the cockpit with my SRAW and the blast radius killed the pilot. It has happened a few times... I have had it happen to me too!

I remember a few times I've been able to do it. One time in paticular was on Sharqi Penninsula, the Havoc was raping TV station and I was able to pick off the pilot as he circled around the roof. Man, it felt so good to see the chopper start spinning out of control, and then look up in the corner only to see that I killed them!

Its always a rewarding kill.

Nice shot...but don't try and repeat it...you will likely be disappointed. Another little know fact is that if you are close enough to a transport heli, if you look in the gun or door bay, you can pop a shot into the pilots head with just a pistol and kill the pilot. This obviously isn't your everyday opportunity but works for those home base sneak attacks.

technically, you did not shoot down the helicopter with your rifle... you killed the pilot (a good shot that is even better if you can do it to a moving jet) resulting in a loss of control which crashed the heli... you lucked out on the fact that no one was paying attention to the pilot and the fact that he was dead and took his seat.

M95 does 2 bars of damage of you hit the canopy of any helo. (The glass part) You can kill the pilot/copilot of you hit either of their helmets taking off or in the air when they hover. I've done this many times playing sniper to jack vehicles. Airplanes and Choppers. If you hit an airplane on the underbelly with the M95 you can do some dmg. Ive shot down a few airplanes when they were smoking doing strafing runs before using the m95. have to hit them like 2 - 3 times but they will come down.
