    A story of defeat.

This happened just a few minutes ago.

We started the first round of Fall of Berlin, and I ordered my squad to defend crossroads, so that's what we did. Then, Trailhunter's squad breaks past us on the South Side, and starts taking Square, and soon after the Headquarters. At this point, our defense of Crossroads was pretty solid, and since the PAC base was completely empty, we decided to mess with their stuff. Problem is, no one came with RDX, one guy had it, but he wasn't doing anything with it. All of a sudden I see that Crossroads has been grayed out, and the first thought that crossed my mind was, "WTF?" I take another squad member with me in the APC to take back Crossroads, but we get shotdown, and we lose the match entirely.

My question was, "what were the other 15+ players doing?" It was only 5 of us gone to mess with the PAC stuff, surely it's not impossible to hold at least one outpost, while two more squads, if not full, partial, to attack an outpost at the same time?

The real embarrassing thing was that we were WINNING 143 (something) to 56 (something). It just blows my mind how I could have missed that, and how we could have lost so easily...

One squad can not do it all alone. I feel the frustration and am glad I was not there.

Sometimes it doesn't matter how many people you have in any place. Sometimes you just have to face the fact that the other side was better than you on that day. I can think of a few titan games where we had ALL of our people on silos and still couldn't hold a single one. Could be lack of communication, could be lack of teamplay, could be lack of skill. Frustrating, but it happens.

here is a hint when you lose the back bases you have 2 choices get them back or stay at your position, it is obvious you chose to stay at your position but then you decideed to do baserape. Baserape is only needed when you are NOT defending the last flag...

Frag is right. Leaving your last flag to do something other than capture another flag was a bad idea, though I also understand your frustration with the rest of your team as I've said it numerous times myself. Early this morning on Leipzig, Cebelius and I were on opposite teams and it felt like we were having our own private duel for two rounds. I have no idea what my team or his team were doing except getting in our way.

I guess I'm to used to having a team that can handle defending a base when someone else leaves. I knew that I should have stayed, common sense told me to stay, I didn't want to take risks with their team, but their commander kept on orbitaling us every second that the orbital was ready. It is really all my fault, I should have probably gotten Roadblock back as soon as we got Square back, but my squadmates told me that if we gave up the defense on the North, we'd completely lose Crossroads. I guess I just got overwhelmed in that situation.

    Re: A story of defeat.

I hate losing that way. To me it seems, that as soon as an enemy makes it past the primary defense point, where ever that may be, unless there is good squad to squad communication facilitated via capslock talking or commander delegation, that everything falls apart.

Either too many people go back to take the back point and the main bulwark of defense falters, or not enough go, and then a two front war of destruction breaks out.

    -_-

Still, baseraping is always annoying to the other team, and may have served to hinder their advance...

Just another thought on this topic: You could have sent two squadmembers (recon and support) into the PAC base to demolish the assets and then taken the rest of the squad wherever they were needed most. That way the PAC commander would have, at least temporarily, lost the ability to launch orbital strikes on your team, not to mention the other items he can use. I don't think the idea of going after the base was all wrong, it just wasn't executed to your best advantage in that situation. There's alot I'm still learning regarding squad leading, not to mention commanding, but if I understand the situation clearly, your team was without a commander, which is a major disadvantage. So anything you can do to degrade the other team commander's abilities will go a long way toward mitigating that disadvantage.
