In reply to the high end stunts:
A gunship has 2 sides: The jet and the helo, In which one requires precise operations and one you do fancy moves. The mouse and wasd keys give you the "helo" style of play allowing you to take out targets easier, This is the air to ground support missles do not lock onto ground targets and makes you need to precisely target them in which the mouse allows you to keep this as if firing a sniper rifle. The wasd keys and the arrow keys give you the "jet" style of play you are able to perform difficult manuvers like flips and 180* turns, but with this it is hard to get a precise firing shot on your target which is not a big deal on air vehicles because the missles lock, but somtimes precise shots are needed to take out a fast moving gunship so I usually use the "jet" for evasive manuvers. EA wanted to make a balenced airship that consisted parcially of the jet and parcially of the helo, they did, 2 different vehicles, 2 different styles.

Re: Flying with Gamepad
use a joystick. Here's the one I use http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ga...s/291&cl=us,en
It has a throttle lever that gives me precise throttle control unachievable with a keyboard/mouse or gamepad. The stick has the typical pitch and roll axis plus a twist axis for yaw. 12 buttons plus 8-way hat switch, let's me put everything I need right there (including the eject button).
It's the best joystick I've ever seen for flying. That is, no other joystick gives you the full 3 dimension in the stick plus an extra dimension in the throttle lever AND lots of buttons on the side. Now here's the real kicker, the best joystick on the market costs only $30.
So when I'm flying I have both hands on the joystick and completely ignore the keyboard. The mouse is still useful to use to free look around but that's it. The only disadvantage I experience with this setup is the inconvenience of having to switch between devices when I get in and out of the cockpit.
