Thread: How would an AA only squad fare?

In the thread "Observations from Civil", DoubleTap brought up a point regarding the effectiveness of properly using AA to slow down an air attack. This got me to thinking for the map Wake Island, if you had a full squad and each member manned a stationary AA post (2 on each arm of the island and one at the runway), how would they do? I know jets can easily knock out one post and very rarely is there anyone occupying the second one on the arm of the island. If the entire squad is communicating and spotting, I think they have a chance to slow down the air attack.

What do you think?

It could become very tedious but seems like it might piss off the air whores...

Excellent idea. It would be difficult to get back to your post once killed, but it would be a great way to make the skies less friendly.

your spotter could double as a chauffeur. so with three people there would be little down time on the gun.

Id be up for that. I love to bring them jets and helos down . who ever wants to do this on whatever map just make a squad called "AA", I'll be in for sure.

One thing I would love to know was EA/Dice's logic behind what maps have mobile AA and what don't. I mean, the other day I noticed on Daqing Oil Fields (you know the one I mean ) that you could potentially have 4 mobile AA vehicles depending on what flags you held. Fair enough i guess, as the are heavy bombers, fighters and gunships. But then on Gulf of Oman, which has pretty much them same amount of air power you don't get any mobile AA. All i every wanted in this game was friggin Man portable AA. That would take away the confidence that pilots have and make them more wary. Which would go along way to making the ground pounders not feel quite so much like punch bags for the air power.

Just FYI...

If you guys flew more, you'd know how to better fight jet's and helo's because you would become intimately familiar with their weaknesses. Then you could exploit them.

Jets and helo's are not end all be all assets (except on some maps like Wake). They have glaring problems too. It's just that some perennial ground pounders don't know who to fight them effectively, and so they get schooled night after night.

Hmmm... I might have to have a training seminar on how to fight jets and helo's when you are on the ground...

The thing is, it depends on the pilot. I don't have to see the AA to kill it I can be at 500 feet and going for a bombing run strafe you on the runway gun and still bomb my target. Then dive beneath the hills at the end of the runway and the second one can't touch me. Reload and do it again.
