Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.
This is more likely to happen inside of buildings because the gui shows friendly names through walls so people might see the name but think they are on the other side of the wall and open up, albeit he should have been more cautious, it happens, I've done it, I've had it happen to me, punish doesn't help anybody even if it was slopiness.

Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.
I think people should use the "Sorry" button more often. I notice it more with the experienced players...for me, it goes a long way. I don't punish often and when I do it is more often out of frustration or my lack of anger management, than anything else.
Example: I hate running across a large map, neutralizing a flag, then hoisting our flag up 3/4 of the way, only to be tked by a jet whore who didn't realize the flag was going to our side. Typically, without a "Sorry" notice on the scroll board to show me that the pilot realized he made a mistake and may be more conscience of his actions next time, I might very well in a moment of pissed off rage, PUNISH. That being said, if I see he also killed a few bad guys with his bombs I let it slide even without a "Sorry". But it wouldn't hurt to say it!

Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.
I occasionally get a case of "uniform confusion" and shoot a friendly (all though usually I just get shot by an enemy, thinking he's friendly). It will look like an intentional TK, but isn't. I say I'm sorry, but I can understand it if I'm punished...
As for punishing, like Manno said, it depends on my level of frustration. Normally I'm an auto forgive kinda guy, but sometimes I just get so pissed I have to vent, when I'm killed by some dumbass who should have known better. For when the One Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the Game

Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.
I have really worked on my fire discipline. I have also worked on recognizing the enemies uniforms. But I still end up TKing a squad member every few maps or so. Last evening (this morning), I TKed LA Merc. I shot him right in the face. An enemy was chasing me, I turned a corner, LA was in front of me and I turned around to try to suprise the enemy and give him a face full of lead. I come back around the corner, the enemy runs past me, I tun around, LA Merc comes around the corner and falls prone. I mistake LA for the enemy and let him have it! Very embarrassing!!! Nothing like killing your SL! I apologized profusely.
In your case Clintock, that guy was more than new....I believe he intentionly TKed you. No sorry? No apologies?

I am going off memory here, but I believe that I was hitting page down to say no way man, which is the only way to get off any communication while someone is shooting at you. It was sloppiness on the other persons part.
What got me steamed is that afterwards, this person took the time to type out several lines of cursing me up one side and down the other. A simple "Sorry man" would have made it water under the bridge. If you believe that throwing a fit is justified after being punished, then this comment obviously does not apply.

What I didn't share was that afterwards, instead of saying 'sorry man', this person commenced to cursing me out. Took plenty of time to chew me out, and didn't give an ounce of thought to saying sorry.
Since I didn't mention this the first time around, I will defer any further comment.
Last comment: Dre, yes I have accidently shot at friendlies. In the event that accidently wound, or kill a friendly, I apologize, whether or not they punish me. The person's reaction to getting punished was not good.

Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.
Some pilots don't care who is at a flag and will just bomb the whole area and let the bombs sort them out. These people should always be punished IMO.
There seems to be a bad practice on the server at times of "I'm going to save the day" and either a commander will drop arty or a pilot will bomb the whole area. LET THE SQUADS FIGHT IT OUT ON THE GROUND!!! If your side looses the battle around the flag then come back and bomb the poop outta them. If you see a squad leader spotting a tank, APC, ect....then it usually means they need to help, otherwise back off.
