    PR: My Thoughts

Hey guys, some of you may have noticed SGT Atrovenator hanging around on the PR server for a couple hours the last two nights. Just thought I'd pop in here and share my thoughts on PR mod. Just to clarify, everything I say here isn't a direct accusation against anyone, just a chronicling of my experiences and some thoughts as to how the awesomeness of PR can be refined even further.

    1. I'm aware PR isn't a finished project, and the glitches are glaringly obvious. Everytime I get involved in a decent squad action or firefight, I get a spontaneous system crash or crash to desktop. I've come to accept it as part of the risks of the battlefield, but ya, hoping the frequent crashing can be remedied soon.

    2. Upon joining the TTP server for the first time, I joined the only squad with an available slot. Someone by the name of 'Bad_Lietenant' immediately said 'kick atrovenator' three times and gave the reason 'he's a teamkilling smacktard'. (Now bear in mind this was before I'd even spawned in.) I got kicked from my squad and had to rejoin after some terse words in my own defense. Situation resolved itself, but it's the best welcome I've ever had in a new game, ever.

    3. I am an armour whore. I love tanks, and the driver-gunner setup is one of my favourite aspects of PR (not to mention the semi-realistic driver-cam) Nothing I like more than crewing two tanks with a full squad and rolling in unison on enemy targets with friendly forces providing support and commander giving direct guidance to our squad leader advising him of incoming threats. However, people who solo in tanks need to go. GunterGX, (who also parked the tank off-map after our dispute and then went semi-inactive commander on us) for instance jumped into a Challenger and began to take it out into the field on his own. I stepped into his path with two squadmates and requested that he give us the asset, but for him, it wasn't an asset, it was a 'toy' and clearly the rules of the sandbox excluded sharing. We wound up getting rather rapidly out of his way and had to wait ten minutes for the next tank. The galling part is, as I said, just to spite us 'nubz', he parked it off the map in an inaccessible location that necessitated his own demise.

    4. Insurgency. Can we please, please, please, please, please put insurgency into the PR rotation? Al Basra is the best map ever.

    5. Panicky people on VOIP. I know it's intense, I know it's realistic but if you freaks don't stop yelling and accusing the rest of us of sucking, you'll quickly find yourself squadded with yourself, in the middle of nowhere, with no transport. :P Three times, (twice on this server and once on tactical gamer) I was accosted by panicky people on voip. The first was a thirteen year old kid who squeaked 'OH MY GOD, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? OH MY GOD? WHERE ARE YOU GOING? OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD. STAY THERE. STAY THERE.' repeatedly as I drove for the -Command Tank-. Squad leader was giving me directions and I was following 'em, but the kid who was spotting on foot seemed to have better plans. We wound up telling him to STFU but still... Annoying! Then there was the British Guy who everytime we got wiped as a squad, yelled at and harassed one particular squad member (wound up picking all of us at some interval through the battle) for berating (when he wasn't the squad leader). Everything that went wrong wasn't just losing a battle (which we did) it was our individual faults for not carrying out our sworn duty to protect his limey ass. : / It's frustrating getting fragged, and if one of your teammates breaks noise discipline in the jungle or something, by all means... run him up the flagpole, but when you get ambushed crossing a bridge in a truck, or hit a mine... accept it as penalties of war. The third guy was perhaps the most annoying. He was a very poor tank driver on TTP. (don't remember his name, only that he, like I, was a Canadian, which saddens me.) He wound up admitting his lousy driving and invited me to drive. Then, contrary to orders from squad leader, all he did was back-seat drive. I understand gunners offer direction, but he didn't know his arse from his elbow from tank tactics. We wound up driving across the map twice and everytime we stopped to take a shot, as many of you who tank know, the tank would drift a little on the hills (think it was Quinling, or whatever the map with the yellow-grass hills is called.) This drifting elicited a panicky (oh my god, hold it steady, noob, stop moving, goddammit, stop, fucking stop alread!!!!!111111!!!111one!!!11!!! in a squeaky Canadian voice.) I explained the drift effect, and that the vehicle occasionally liked to settle onto its treads far more than was necessary but it was still my fault as driver. Ugh. So we wound up making it all the way around the map to overwatch on chinese FOB, where we spotted a helicopter about half a click out. The gunner, without requesting permission or advising me of such opened up on it with the co-axial and wound up putting a few rounds into it. As it turned and headed towards us for the kill, higher than he could elevate his gun, I jumped up onto the fifty and put enough rounds into it to make it smoke. It did wind up blowing us up though, and, again, this was my fault. "You shoot at it when it's just flying by, oh my god, but why did you shoot at it when it was coming right for us, that's like, an invitation to get killed."

... Is all I have to say.

    6. I'd like some squadleaders who exercise some discretion, don't leave rally points more than a kilometer from the objective and make us hump up mountainsides to acquire LOS with target. I'd like squadleaders who maintain constant chatter with the commander (I get the feeling a lot of them are nervous of this option) and make use of the commander to request armoured/air support in our sectors. I had one exemplary squadleader who requested chopper insertion, popped smoke in a rice paddy for pickup got the squad moved and then, when he discovered that I'd missed the insertion due to having to get ammo from an adjacent firebase, arranged for a second pickup by the same pilot. Maybe it's just me, but the general attitude seems to be a mistrust of non-squadded teammates.

    7. On this topic, a word on teamkillers. I had two teamkills on the server yesterday and both of them were unfortunate self defense. The first was a member who joined our squad and promptly began shooting near me 'tskyflyf' or something like that. I wound up taking a shot in the foot or leg or something, going to ground and wasting his rear end. Squadleader, who was right there asked 'what the hell was that?' and after a quick explanation, he wound up getting canned. The other was when I as a scout on Mestia humped through about twenty minutes worth of forest to come around behind the enemy forces. I climbed the bunker-face on the western fort using my grapplehook and wound up in the small outpost-bunker at the base of the hill. Simultaneously my teammates assaulted from the other side. Perfect coordination, only problem was that nobody advised them that I was in their area. I got shot at repeatedly and then had no choice but to dash right out into the open when they put a grenade into my cover. Bleeding badly I staggered up the hill looking for a medic only to be confronted by a teammate with a pistol. At the last second he realized his mistake and said 'Sorry' but that was the billionth of a second before I pulled the trigger. I'm not somebody who teamkills but after 20 minutes of humping through bush I wasn't about to let somebody kill me. Pissed me off so bad that did it for the night and I logged off. I understand that sort of thing happens, but triggerhappy teammates that don't use their maps, or commanders who don't oversee assaults and advise squads of friendlies in area are the death of a good team.

So, there's my longwinded rant about PR on TTP. I enjoy the game, and relish the opportunity to play with talented and intelligent teamplayers. If you understand the basic ROE and are looking for a competent squadmember who is happy to follow orders, hit me up with a squad invite, I won't let you down. I'm new to the game mode but after two nights of excessive play I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Solutions to all of the problems/issues/gripes/random bitching I've done above? More admins. Better squadleaders. Unilateral banination of poor teamplayers, asset hogs and intentional teamkillers. It's a fantastic game, and I enjoy playing with all of you, but some heavyhanded presence on the servers would be optimal to preserve the level of maturity.

    Atro out. :4

    Re: PR: My Thoughts

First off let me say I am glad you stopped by and thank you for your opinion. If you have retards that drive the tank out of bounds on purpose call for a admin. If you have a teamkiller once again, call for a admin. They are always on and watching. Same thing goes for inactive commanders, if they are gone 10-15 min's, dont call the ghost busters, call the admin.......Admins are here to help all you have to do is call. If the player is breaking the rules he will be delt with.

    Re: PR: My Thoughts

Glad to see that you joined the forums and have played on the server. What Vlade said is correct. It has been my experience that on the servers, if you call for an admin one will generally respond and deal with the situation. I would like to warn you though, that intentional teamkilling of any kind, even if it is in self defense will get you kicked or banned. Just the other day I was in a squad and some guy got banned because he teamkilled a guy on the carrier who he thought was going to blow him up. Unfortunately, sometimes you get people who are annoying but when this happens you just have to follow FIDO: F*** It, Drive On. I hope to see you on the server soon, and look forward to squading up with you.

    Re: PR: My Thoughts

If you are crashing when a big firefight takes place around you, I would invest in another gig of on board MEMORY. 1.5 is the bare, bare, minimum.

2 gigs or more seem to be the happy medium.

    Welcome to TTP.

    Re: PR: My Thoughts

I have 2 gigs of corsair gaming ram. I don't get crashes like this in vanilla and I play COD4 and Oblivion on full settings. This game hates my computer, and I get frequent crashes where the game and sound begin hiccuping on repeat like a broken record. It necessitates a hard reset of my system, won't let me alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del. Also, I've noticed that the server goes down every or every other round both for TTP and others (sometimes mid-round) which sucks. Bigtime. The persistent crashing is the only thing that'll keep me out of this fantastic game.

2 gigs is plenty. You have a different issue. Give us your full system specs.

You should have no issues with that system. I really do not know what to tell you. My system is not much better than yours and I have not issues at all. I have crashed maybe 2 times since the new PR version and I play quite a bit. If I were you I would start looking at software issues like spyware, viruses or any other PC type issues.

I had a similar problem like that at one time. I installed nvidia drivers for my vcard and problem went away.

According to this statement, you yourself should be banned. Although your heart may have been in the right place, intentional team killing of any sort, whether its in self defense, or an idiot who does it because its for "fun", it is still an intentional TK. If a guy is about to TK you, let him. Do not take matters into your own hands. Simply take a screenshot and post it in the sticky PR Teamkiller Complaints. I know it is tempting to kill that ass-hat retard, but take a deep breath, and help us out by taking a screenshot of the idiot so that he may never come back to our great community.

Now that that is out of the way, welcome!

I've played with you several times, and you are a great teamplayer and you are always welcome in my squad (especially my tank squad ). We are glad to have you, you are one of the guys that I was really hoping would come here, especially after you joined my tank squad in Kashan several days ago. You followed every order to the T, and your skill in the tank is exemplary.

Make yourself at home, because now that your here, we own your balls! Just kidding, but you probably won't want to leave.
