And if you've ever seen the MetalStorm technology on the History Channel or something, you'll know they don't need gunpowder anymore, so that helps reduce the size of the bullet.

It's not that they don't need gunpowder; the rounds are caseless, the cordite is formed with a plasticizer so it's solid. The rounds are stacked in the barrel one in front of the other and fired by an electrical impluse. One of the most impressive demonstrations I've ever seen was the three barrel pistol, each barrel fires at the same time, putting three rounds on the same spot all at once.

and here I just thought that they had a device in them that riped and almost instantly repaired a tiny little hole to the center of a planet in another dimension, and that this resulted in smallish bits of the planet being ejected at a high velocity ...
