02-17-08, 02:57 PM #1Removing the rallypoints?
Seeing as this thread didn't get alot of attention last time, thought I'd use it for the current setup the PR devs are going to try out the next days/weeks. The initial thread was a suggestion to remove the RPs in early 2008, now the devs are going to try it out in public, along with a few other changes. Check it out.

Keep in mind that the first to pages here are old, but in a forum manner I didn't want to create a new one when this already existed.

Re: Removing the rallypoints?
One guy "Terranova" made some good additions if they were moved, basically making bunkers/firebases easier to deploy for SLs and making the commander not as influential over them.
I like building bases in key locations for respawn/defense as it makes sense to me given the limitations of the game engine itself.

Re: Removing the rallypoints?
I think it would be a great way to make the Commander more integral to play. While difficult to do and impossible against an experienced team, a map can be won without ever having a fire base/bunker built. Removing RPs and giving the Commander a greater presence would also go along way toward emphasizing team play even further, reinforcing the reality that we serve the Commander (although some may not behave this way).
However, I will conclude by saying that while I think there are some positives in making such a change, I would rather that they do not eliminate the RPs ... I'm still getting used to now "spawning on green!"My goal is to succeed in any mission - and live to succeed again.
God grant that I may not be found wanting, that I will not fail this sacred trust.

Re: Removing the rallypoints?
I think the commander should have less responsibilities. It's bad enough now when we're 5 minutes into the game and nobody's gone commander. Then you get the team begging for someone to volunteer and finaly someone does just out of necessity, even though they're not particularly good. For me personally there's just not a good enough cost:benefit to being commander. It's not particularly fun, it's a pain trying to communicate with the squads, and if you can manage that it's a pain getting them to follow your orders. Hopefully in future patches they try something new with the commander position to make it more gratifying, or at least a better comm system. I think I'll try going commander more often just to get some practice in either way.

I would not like to see rallypoints removed.
While it is good for a commander to play an integral part in the game, if the game relies too much on the commander, then the whole team could suffer because of an inexperienced / poor / what ever you want to say / commander. I think a lot of people avoid playing as the commander because the play in that role becomes a bit more RTS than FPS and as I quite enjoy RTS type stuff as well, I do command a fair amount - but sometimes I like to get involved in the real action. As Mario said, more regulars should step up and command.

However, I did meet my challenge with too many other squads that decided the commander's orders were unnecessary. In fact, at one point I had been instructing a squad for some 15/20+ minutes to go back, secure FOB, and rebuild the bunker so that our team could spawn there and use the vehicles at that location (instead of having to spawn all the way back at main every time). While their squad scattered to the wind, one tank did try to roll into FOB. It was destroyed.
Well ... I continued urging them to secure and rebuild. Eventually (15/20+ minutes later) I get "!$*(&#$(*@( next time tell us to do that when before we get in the tank!" .... I was not aware that people spawned as crewmen, but then we learn something new every day. The insults and foul attitude spewed on ... as I was reminded that we were now down to some 30 or so ticks. True enough, by that time I would normally tell everyone to do their best and go kill some nme, but I was struck that after delaying for so long and refusing to do the task well before the dearth of points that these guys ... pfffft
It was nice to see that these non-teamplayers left the server before the next map.
Yes, bryn, bird, et. al. you made us suffer greatly that round! :5 I hope you liked that JDAM I left for ya at village! :10
On the next map I only hopped into the Commander seat halfway through the round ... no one wanted to step up and the Chinese had finally figured out how to pull a trigger! Needless to say ... it was a little too little too late (but close). I was pleased to finally get a firebase up and an AA to help us keep the APCs at bay a little.
I've had my fill as commander for a few days ... gonna go rest now! :4
... back on topic ...
I'm still for keeping RPs ...My goal is to succeed in any mission - and live to succeed again.
