ATX......I've been in texas my whole life and I've never heard anyone call it ATX.

I was thinking atlanta....like an airport code. Maybe Austin's airport code is ATX.

28 Days Later - Need Help to Develop Mod

    Dear All,
I have decided to start working on a new project for Left 4 Dead, called... 28 Days Later [Name TBC]. This mod will pay homage to the best zombie movie ever made.... 28 Days Later!

I will be re-watching the movie quite a few times over the next few weeks, and start drawing up floor plans of how the maps should look like, and so on.

I would like to ask for your help in developing this mod. I am specifically interested in Mappers, Texture Artists and 3D Modelers.

I am not planning on making a heavy mod, with tons of development time. I plan on using the L4D SDK almost exclusively when it will be released. I don’t think I need any programmers, as I plan on making 5 new maps, which take place in London. Ideally, I would like experienced mappers, who are dedicated, and can produce work in a fairly short time-span (I don’t expect you to work 24/7, but if we can get 5 mappers in place, we can work through the mod fairly quickly).

The mod will consist of 5 maps. The following is a rough guide of how I want the game to play out. It is subject to change. I will rewatch the movie over and over again, and try and make some changes to the levels, and make sure that the game tries to follow the path of the movie as close as possible.

I have not thought of any level names at this time, so for now, I will describe the where the level takes place, and what happens in the levels. As usual, the mod will follow the same method of spawning infected and special infected. (As an example, the Tank will show up only on level 2 and onwards)

    START OF CAMPAIGN

    Level 1 - Hospital > Streets > Underground.
This is where our 4 survivors will start the game. They will begin in the hospital, with 4 survivors starting with only pistols, and no medpacks. The survivors will have to make their way towards the hospital exit, where they will find Tier 1 weapons, and medpacks. Pills may be found around the hospital area too. This level is set during the day time.

The survivors will exit the hospital and end up on the streets in London, which will be isolated (and full of zombies). The survivors will have to fight through the streets and make their way towards the nearest underground station.

Upon coming down the stairs towards the underground, the survivors will face their first crescendo event. The crescendo event is triggered by walking through the ticket gates and setting off the alarm (after all, you didn’t buy a ticket did you!!). After fighting off the horde's you will make your way down towards the stations platforms, and enter the manager’s office, which will be your first safe room.

Level 2 - Train Tunnels > Streets > Apartment Blocks

Level 2 of the map begins with the survivors leaving the manager’s office and heading down towards the lowest platform. From there on, the survivors will have enter a train tunnel and make their way towards the next station. The train tunnel is pitch black, thus flash lights are a must! There will be multiple areas during the tunnels (with limited lighting), such as service entrances where survivors could hide out during horde panic events, or look for pills and explosives. Once the survivors reach the next station, they will need to head high and exit the station. There will be yet another crescendo event on this section, as (Yup, you guessed it!) you didn’t pay for your tickets again!! The survivors walk through the gates to exit the station to trigger the horde.

Upon exiting the station, the survivors, are again out on the London streets. This time, the level is set during the evening, with the night sky. The survivors realise that they need to take shelter, so they decide to head towards the nearest apartment block, which is located in the distance. The survivors make their way towards the apartment blocks.

Upon reaching the apartment blocks, the survivors must make their way up the stairs towards the top of the apartments (exact floor tbc). They will pass multiple derelict apartments on the way, which can be searched and explored. Once they reach the floor, they will enter a barricaded apartment block, which will act as the second safe house.

Level 3 - Road > Motorway Tunnel > Road Block

The survivors begin this level in the apartment block, and decide to head down towards the streets. The survivors exit the apartment block using the door to the emergency exit/balcony, which goes down towards the streets. The survivors will head down towards the streets.

Once the survivors are on the streets, they meet a NPC character that offers them a lift out the city. The car cannot be driven (although I want the car to be drivable, if possible, but not necessary). Once the survivors are on the car, the car starts driving using a set route, which triggers lots of zombies along the way. The survivors will have to fight the zombies while being on the move.

Eventually, the survivors reach a tunnel, which is blocked off by a massive car pile up. This will be the third crescendo event. The survivors will have to trigger an explosion to clear the road, which triggers a horde. Once the horde is dealt with, the survivors will have to get back on the truck. As the truck continues along the motorway, more zombies and infected attack the truck. From this point onwards, you can see Manchester further up the road, completely destroyed and covered in fire. Eventually the survivors will reach a massive road block, which was setup by the military. The survivors enter a shipping container which is mounted on a truck. This is their 3rd safe house.

[ Making a drivable vehicle, would be ideal, however, if this is not possible, then the truck will be driven by the NPC. The truck will stop if a survivor jumps off the truck, or gets smokered. The truck only moves, if all alive survivors are on the truck. This particular level needs more thinking, and it could be that there will be no cars at all. I will need to think about this and discuss this with others before making a decision. ]

    Level 4 - Road Block > Mansion

The survivors begin by exiting the shipping container, and start making their way towards the mansion which can be seen in the distance.

First the survivors will have to walk past the road block, and avoid setting off car alarms and so on. Eventually the survivors will reach an opening where they enter a forested area and make their way towards the safe house.

The area will be kind of like Blood Harvest, with trees and rocks all over the place. The survivors will have to make their way through this area, to reach a hut on the outskirts of the mansion. This is the fourth crescendo event. In order to get to the hut, they will need to raise a gate, so they will be able to pass. Raising the gates, will cause a horde to come at the survivors. Once the horde is taken care off, the survivors will go into the hut, which will act as the fourth and final safe house.

    Level 5 - Mansion Finale

The survivors will exit the hut, and head towards the mansion. The entrance to the mansion is heavily mined, and the survivors will have to be careful not to set off any mines, otherwise, a horde will come. Zombies may set off the mines also by walking on them, but they do not cause a horde to come.

The survivors will enter the mansion on the lower levels. The survivors need to make their way to the helipad at the back of the mansion to get to the finale. Unfortunately, the main entrance to the helipad is blocked off, so therefore the survivors will have to traverse the whole mansion, going up, floor by floor, until they get to the top floor of the mansion, where they can jump out a bedroom windows to get on the helipad.

    This is the finale.

The survivors, call for help using the radio and the finale begins. Its the same as in L4D, with 2 hordes, tank, 2 hordes, tank and then escape.

The survivors escape using a helicopter which lands on the helipad. The campaign will end with the helicopter lifting off, then a black screen with "28 Days Later" written, and then will show a Hut in a middle of the field with the letters "HELLO" on the grass.

[ Not too sure about the mines just yet, but it would be cool if it could happen!. ]

    END OF CAMPAIGN.

So this is generally what I want to create. I have not done any work on this what-so-ever, but if there is enough interest in the project, and if I can get a team together then I will start working on the concept images myself.

    WHAT I CAN PROVIDE

I am not a mapper, therefore, I cant be much help, technically, but this is what I can do for you:

    - General guidance
    - Concept Art
    - Floor plans of levels
    - 2D Art
    - Texturing
    - Photos of the real life location (so mappers can use the images to base their maps on)
    - Photos of real life textures (+ converting them into textures)
    - Web site, design, and maintenance
    - 28 Days Later movie
    - and more!

    WHO I NEED

    - Mappers – ideally 5 or more, with Source experience
    - 3D Modellers – 1 or 2, maybe even none, depends on a lot of factors
    - Texture artists – 1 or 2
    - Programmers and or Script writers for Source – Its early days yet, but we might need people like this
    - And any other people who think they can contribute in any way

Anyway, if you are interested in helping me make this awesome mod, then please PM your details, and we will take it from there. Or email me on alexiako [at] hotmail.com. This is my MSN too so add me

Apart from that, I await your feedback on this idea, and any help you can provide in making this mod a reality.

    Thank you for reading.

I am planning on using just the standard L4D characters, although it maybe a possibility that we create our own characters. It depends

Mines was the initial idea, but this is not final and subject to change when the desgin stages kick off

I know its not a zombie movie, but the film locations would make it an excellent campaign for L4D

I am not trying to create a whole TC. I just want to create a new campaign. I want to stick with L4D as much as possible.
