Thread: New Issue

I'm having an interesting new issue that I've never seen on the forums before and isn't in the "common issues" thread.

I connect to EA and select my soldier just fine. Load onto a server (I tried others to make sure it wasn't just TTP) and then after about 30 seconds I get d/c'd with the message "Connection to the server was lost." After that any server I try and connect to gives me a "Could not connect to this server." message over and over. If I restart my game I can reconnect to a server again but again after 30 second I get disconnected and cannot reconnect to that server or any other server until I restart my game again.

I checked my ping and that doesn't seem to be the issue because I'm registering well under 100 on every server I visit during the entirety of the 30 seconds I'm on.

Any suggestions? I'm really looking forward to getting back into 2142 again. Its been almost 9 months since I played regularly (used to even have a reserved slot).

You should try manually updating punkbuster. Everytime I have an issue I almost inevitably find out that it's PB trying to update itself.

Haha. Yeah CoD 4 sucked me in for a bit. Oh yeah, and that thing called college...it always seems to get in the way of my game playing.

I'll try updating PB and let you know how it turns out, the only reason I thought it wasn't PB was cause it wasn't giving me a "kicked by punkbuster" error.

I left my bf2 game like that, and just he other day go re-install and log in only to find my cd had been jacked cause there was other name on my ea account (which you can get to thou the log on screen or create solider button in bf2) by MOdean and ea refused my connections. with my bf2 cd key

this definitely sounds like a PB issue. You may not notice it initially, but as you come into the game (if you get in fast enough) you should start seeing white text near the kill confirmation area saying things like "loosing key packets" or whatever.

A punkbuster update and a restart should fix this.

Okay PB updated and its still no good. I watched the console closely as I logged in and it did all the standard PB checks. It got farther I think since I updated but it still didn't fix the problem. I noticed that it did say some things about "receiving from server" and then some other messages but I didn't catch them before I was disconnected. Is there any way I can get the console logs so I can find out what it is saying and post it here? I've scoured the internet and my BF2142 folder and I found the "pbcl.log" file but that just is a record of all the times you've been kicked by punkbuster and why. It doesn't contain server disconnects and I can't find any other log files that log the console.

As a side note, I did reinstall BF2142 and put it on a different hard drive this time (my old one was running out of space). Are there any potential issues with that (registry conflicts with PB, etc.)?

A couple more notes. I watched the console closely and I saw a few things:

1) First Punkbuster lets you know it is setup to kick for pings, etc.
2) Second it tells you your GUID.
3) It tells you that its connecting to an evenbalance master server and gives what I presume is its IPv6 address.
4) It says "PB installed and working correctly"
5) It says I have "0Current Cvar Violations" after this point the game hangs and then disconnects.

The same thing happens on every server.

New update. After a few more tries of the pbsetup.exe program I figured out that it actually needs to be in the PB folder to work (regardless of what Evenbalance's website says) so I updated and it actually recognized the update as completed that time. I also cleaned out my registry and lo and behold, I can log in just fine! Thanks for the advice guys, I guess a PB update was all that was needed.

Prepare to be amazed by how much my skills disappeared since we last played!

Okay. Apparently I lied. Even though it worked last night the problem isn't fixed. Today I got a new error at the bottom of the screen saying something like "PB communication failure. PnkbstrB.exe heartbeat stopped" I've tried updating again to no avail....any suggestions?
