    silly noob question

I've been thinking about picking up another TTP game to play other than TF2, and so far BF2/2142 look interesting. I'm trying to figure out what exactly I would need to play on TTP's servers. From poking around in the forums a bit, it seems like there is regular BF2, a mod called project reality, and BF2142. Is this correct? Are there other mods or expansions which are necessary? Couldn't find this info explicitly stated in a sticky or anything, so it would be much appreciated if someone could clarify

I dont play 2142,but I can tell you about BF2.As far as bang for the buck,I would go with BF2.The TTP vanilla server is almost always full of nice people ready to squad up with you and help you learn your way around. There are also a few good mods that are based on BF2.Project Reality is a bigger, slower moving, and higher stakes version with many new maps.Allied Intent Extended(AiX) is a mod that has tons of new maps, old maps from the BF1942 and BFVietnam days and features new weapons and different takes on current BF2 maps. Both of these mods are free of charge and can both be easily dl in a day. There are also a couple of expansion packs available for BF2,and are worth getting as well.In fact they package them together for a pretty decent deal.

$30 gets you BF2 vanilla, the three expansion packs, and the ability to dl PR and Aix...
No disrespect to 2142 fans, but if I had to pick one or the other,BF2 FTW!

BF2 is a stand alone game. It has 3 expansion/booster packs. They are called Special forces, Armored Fury, and Euro Forces. TTP does not host any of these at this time. If you get the Special Forces expansion and play it you can get additional unlocks that can be used on the TTP server.

PR, Project Reality, is a free mod for BF2. TTP hosts it, and you can download and install it once you have the basic BF2 game.

2142 is a stand alone game that TTP hosts. It has one expansion that is called Northern Strike. It basically includes more maps and unlocks. TTP hosts these maps on both servers, so you would want to get it to avoid being kicked from the server when these maps come up in the rotation.

JeLi.. one thing to consider about BF2.. you can, for maybe 30 bucks, buy the BF2 collection, which has BF2, the SF, EF and AF expansions, as well as the necessary patch to be current with the required version in order to play on TTP.

The PR and AiX mods are free mods.

Thanks for all the helpful responses! I've sort of been watching the server levels for the different BF games and it looks like most people play plain BF2?

    Re: silly noob question

For the most part the BF2 "vanilla" (plain BF2) seems to have the most steady traffic. However, usually with small priming efforts any of the 2142 servers and the BF2 PR server get rocking pretty quickly.

PR, I feel, is well worth the dl/install.. I don't hardly play it but for the monthly matches, but it's free, and quite a different kind of ride, compared to the "arcadeness" of BF2 vanilla, 2142, ..hell and most of the rest of the TTP hosted games.

Whichever games/mods you choose, there's a ton of great regulars that are willing to help you along, as well as, of course, the articles/tutorials that can be found here on the TTP forums.

    Re: silly noob question

My advice to people is to try out the demos, and see which game you prefer playing. BF2 has a different feel to it than 2142, and both of them are very different from PR. The TTP servers for all three of those games are partying pretty consistently, so it's usually not very hard to hop into a game whenever you have time.

    Re: silly noob question

I just ordered the BF2 combo yesterday. Hopefully it will be on its way soon. Are there demos available for both BF2 and 2142? Are they available on EA's website?
