CTD issue
I'm curious as to how many people with the issue are running xfire...
It happened to me twice last night in rapid succession. Since it was the first time I'd logged on to the BF2 server since installing xfire, I killed the xfire process and tried it again and it didn't happen again through 6 maps.

Re: CTD issue
So far since this issue has come up I've yet to have any problem crashing to the desktop.
The only time I've had anything like that happen was a while back when I let my computer overheat
too much. Complete unrelated. Also in response to you xfire question. Yes I've been running xfire
for the last month or so.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Re: CTD issue
I think the CTD problems are related to people hacking the server and crashing it -- not Xfire. It's happened to me both with and without Xfire running.
FYI: Xfire is a great instant messaging utility that you can use in-game. It allows you to see where your friends are playing and browse servers for several games at once.

Re: CTD issue
I was just trying to figure out why I suddenly had the problem and eliminate anything that I had done recently to possibly cause it to start. I guess I can rule xfire out... It was just pretty coincidental that I'd never seen the issue until I started running xfire and went away when I closed it down.

I've ran experiments on my own machine to see if my disconnect Issues are related to X-fire, but did not see any difference.

Re: CTD issue
I run x-fire and have never been ctd without this happening to everyone on the server. This is not a hack. I went to a SF server Sunday night when this was happening a lot and it happened there too. All BF2 servers are having this problem. Rumor has it, this has something to do with PunkBuster and may be connected to the new BF2 patch that has been reported to be coming out.

Re: CTD issue
I noticed that just before the 2142 patch released there was a higher incidence of disconnects also. At that time I think it was an error message "problem reading from the server" or something like that. I doubt it is anyone's machine as everyone in the server crashes to desktop and the server is rebooted. It is being reported on the EA site so it isn't just TTP. I would guess it is EA working on some Punkbuster issues or a patch like manno suggested.
