good news: I'm back, and I'll be playing 2142 more again.

Bad news: after four...yeah four... base-1.5-NS-1.5 installs, I got the game working, but now I get the stupid "modified content" error on NS maps! GAHHH!

So, yeah. 3 cheers for EA wasting my time that I could be wasting constructively.

I don't ever bother with 1.4... and I've reinstalled twice since 1.5 came out. I think there's still bad copies of patches floating around out there.

I'll find out soon enough when I install Windows 7 beta and have to reload.
