    I try and stay away...

But this game keeps pulling me back. :P

I'm redownloading as we speak, and should have this damn game installed and patched up in an hour or so. However, in the meantime, I've got a couple questions I'd like to ask before I jump back into the fray. For a frame of reference, I last played in late '06/early '07.

    1. Are snipers still forced to wear ghillie suits? I had heard someone once mention that they would be given the option to either wear them or wear their side's standard uniform.

    2. Has bullet drop/lead been adjusted much since I last played? For example, when sniping at long distances especially, one had to place the reticle significantly above and in front of their target in order to land a hit. I'm not arguing against the system, it would just be nice to know what to expect before I fire off a round and reveal my position. :2

    3. Is a joystick still a requirement to properly and skillfully fly aircraft? I know it's POSSIBLE to fly with mouse and keyboard, but I recall finding it much easier with a joystick. I have a Logitech 3D Pro laying around here somewhere. Should I go ahead and dust it off?

    4. Could you explain, in a nutshell, what Project Reality is? It seems to be extremely popular, and we're planning on doing a podcast feature on it in the future. I know I could probably just google it and search through a few pages of information, but if any of you could provide just a few short examples of what it changes, that'd be fantastic, both for myself and for future reference when we do the podcast.

Thanks in advance guys. Hope to help raise your K ratio see you in game soon.

Ghili suit.. yes.. for US team, at any rate.

Not sure of bullet drop.. I didn't think there was any.. but I hardly ever snipe.

Joystick is probably the best option, at least for jets.

Project Reality is.. well.. in a way vastly different from BF2 "vanilla". No crosshairs when firing "from the hip".. No hit/kill indicators when you shoot someone. A shot to center mass will do deadly damage, even with only one round, and it it doesn't kill right away, they will likely bleed to death. You bleed to death if injured down to a certain % of health. Medics need to "Manually" heal you.. no raining insta-heal medpacks like candy.. You cannot dive to the ground for instant accuracy.. when going prone it takes a few seconds for your aim to adjust. Your stamina for running and jumping tends to get eaten up faster.. so no bunnyhopping about gleefully dodging rockets and grenades alike...

Armor such as tanks require operators.. a driver and a gunner.. same for APCs. You re required to use specialized kits in order to drive certain vehicles or fly aircraft. No automatic minimap.. you only get mini map when in a vehicle.. you can still call up the large map. The gameplay is much slower and more cautious, yet often way more intense when a firefight starts up... you worry more about staying alive because each time you die, more time gets added to your spawn timer. Also, armer/aircraft don't instantly respawn either... a long time between respawns.. like I think 20 minutes or so unless that has changed with newer patches.

You will spend much of your time calling out enemy locations/distances for a marksman or sniper to take out than engaging in combat yourself, depending on what kit you play.

uh... PR guys, did I miss anything?

Of major importance; are stealth and strategical location/movement. Properly awaiting back up before engaging superior forces is a must or your ass is dead and your position is given away, which in turn leads to a retreat.

Plans of attack position as well as a good defensive position are a must in this game. Only certain flags can be attacked/defended against which forces the game play into some intense battles. No more run/gun/cap & move shit. If you take it, you had better be ready to defend the hell out of it.

Linear lines of attack are always fatalistic if you don't have your forces marshalled and working together.

To go fast in PR, you have to go slow. No Rambo shit here. Knowing when to hold your fire and when to take it as well as where to concentrate it. Keeping mic chatter down so that you and your squad/team can listen for enemy movements/armor/vehicles/gunfire.

I'm sure there are plenty of other things but I'm sure that will give you enough to wet your whistle for now. Any and everything else can only be learned in game. One last thing; if your team does not function as a team, then they will surely lose. It's a forgone conclusion. Also, if you ever get the opportunity to squad up with me, I'd gladly show you the ropes and properly initiate you to where the real ground pounding is at.

***EDIT***: http://www.texasteamplayers.com/index.php?topic=52417.0 << that is one link with a little feel for the game play until it degenerated into old Army guys remembering things.

Hm, I'm kind of liking the sound of PR the more I hear about it. Reminds me of... um... damn, what was that older game called? One of the first FPS's that supported 64 players, had heli's, boats, tanks, etc.... Damn it, drawing a blank.

    OH SHIT!!!

Just forgot the most important thing for a new guy to PR. Flag radius' are much bigger, but this means the enemy has more places to hide and they don't just turn real quick like Vanilla BF2. They take a while to come down, and I do mean a while, they take a little to turn neutral, then they take a while to go up. During that time, you need to have enough people in the area to do a sweep for enemy still hanging out ready to retake the damned flag. And if some says grenade, don't look just run for all your worth. The blast radius on them bitches in just like a real hand grenade from the ARMY.

And if you look real close at the images in my signature. The first, third, & last are all from PR rounds I've played on this server. Everyone of those pics was an awesome squad and great play. The last is what happens from a JDAM in PR. Them bitches are rough to live through. They do some serious devastation.

Re: I try and stay away...

Just watch some youtube clips about PR ,and you will see the difference!

Vanilla is just is great for put your brain somewhere else and just kill ,kill and kill! In a PR u need to concentrate 100 %,and i saw loot of guys with one ore two kills and they are still first on the map cos they have 0 deaths and loot of team work done!
