Re: Tank tactics
I LOVE the tank on Sharqi. I think anyone who has played with me on that map on the US knows how much I love the tank.
As usual, I'm engineer and I spawn on top of the station, ignore the chopper and jump off. I grab the tank and immediately lay 3 mines in the entrance to TV station and the other 2 right in the shadows between the buildings of construction site. Then I wait. Usually people go to Alley or try to head straight to TV, but they are in for a rude awakening.
The trick with the tank, especially on a map like Sharqi, is to frequently go into 3rd person mode for like a second and see if anyone is trying to lay mines or trying to C4 your ass. And always be on the lookout for Jihaaders; sometimes your tank shot doesn't register with the dune buggies or jeeps, so you have to be careful there.
As for Mashtuur, on the US side, take the tank near the Mosque and then to Hotel. A lot of guys will be there, because usually US gets Mosque and Backyard. But, watch out for the MEC tank on the road leading into the West of Backyard. On the MEC side, always take a jeep to the power station with 4 people in it. Too many times have I seen the US chopper bail out 5 people to steal the MEC tank. If you think that is going to happen, lay mines right in front and in back of the tank spawn so if they get it, they will die immediately. Once you get it off, don't tank the road to the west of Backyard, don't take the ramp between Backyard and Mosque either. You'll be extremely vulnerable by AT if you take the ramp. People can shoot you from the ground level and buildings, and you can't do jack about it because you have to straighten out. Instead, head to the bridge from Hotel and try to support your team there.
I like what Blue said, but I have to disagree with the part about rushing in the armor on maps like Karkand and Jalalabad. Odds are, at least 2 squads have AT kits in them, so rushing in is just going to get you killed faster. That is to say, don't sit back with your dick in your hand. You need to find the happy medium. On Karkand with US, it is a common practice to sit in front of the hotel and kill the baddies. Once your grab the Hotel, head halfway up to Square and try to pick off as many people as you can without exposing yourself to the TOW. Buildings to either side will, for the most part, prevent Eryx's come at you from an unknown position.
On the MEC side, you should take 1 APC across the Train Accident (TA) bridge while the tank and other APC go across the land bridge. the APC going across TA will prevent any Humvee or APC from trying to cross the TA with no resistance. The tank and APC on the land bridge will and should prevent the predictable APC from traveling against the sea wall.
With these tactics, I've maximized both kills and team support while in armor. I can safely say that on Sharqi, I've shot down the MEC chopper over 2x per round while in the tank on the US side because I'm so vigilant of my surroundings. That, and I also garner over 100 points defending TV from the MEC people.
Of course, many of these tactics go out the window on maps with bomber jets on them (Oman, Daquing, and Kubra to name a few)

Oh and now...I am learning the ways of the jets.....and I am getting better and better each time I fly......so look out.
One more time I will say this......you guys trying to get better in armour.......get into the battle.....the sooner you do that...the better you will get.
By the way.....I consider ta-mato ....not tA-mato ....a damn good tank operator.....I love going against him....another good one is Wott. although I know Ta-mato talk about holding back to a degree...I have been against these guys numerous times....and it always struck me that they use a tank a lot simular to the way I use it.....they get into the fight.
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!
