Tank tactics
Folks.....if you are going to take a tank....or apc.....you need to understand how to use the equipment.
Notice I am not saying don't take the armour unless "you can use it", I am saying you need to understand how to use it. There is a difference.
First like flying a jet or helo.....operating a tank correctly takes practice. the field of vision is very bad in a tank and there are lots of ways to defeat it in battle. However when you become adept at this powerful piece of equipment....you can be as big a fear to your opponent as any jet fighter.
Right off the bat......do not hold the tank back or the APC! Get into the battle and as fast as you can! You are going to get taken out....but you will learn where to look for the Jeeps of the BF2 world and get your punch in. Holding the tank back does your team no good. On some maps it is essential to depleting the opponents tickets. Keep the turret moving....learn to move forward while looking behind....it's like learning to fly forward but in rear view mode.
Have the right kit....and when operating a tank....there is only one kit....engineer. I can not tell you how many times I have had two shots to my tank and was able to get away to repair it. Plus you can repair other tanks and APCs on your side. Tank and apc operators need to work together as much as is possible......continuing to repair one another. Good commanders know where their tanks are and should be constanly dropping supplies near their location.
On Karkland.....I have seen many many times where the armour vehicles were holding back. They should not do this. This is a map that once the US gets a flag the ticket bleeding all but stops.....so you need your armour in there killing as many as possible to continue the bleed.
I can not tell you how many times I have been on the MEC side with just the factory flag and have won the game. How? because the kill rate of the opponent when they are in the warehouse is incredible and so is the ticket bleed. It takes a long time to get the US tanks to the factory and if they are not there to help against the MEC tanks and apcs....then the  kill rate is going to cause a lot of ticket bleed.
Same can be said for Sharqi....and Mastur.
What brought this topic on is that I was commanding on Karkland the other day on the MEC side and I noticed that the tanks and APCs were not getting into the battle. The US tanks were having fun killing our players and the US side had only 2 flags....we had all the others. I kept asking the  squad leaders to get the tanks into the battle and by the time they did it was to late.
So quit being afraid you are going to get your tank blown up.......cause you are sooner or later.....you just want to be sure you take a bunch with you when it happens.
One more thing to think about......when  the ground pounders are in squads...and they come up on, or have come up on them a tank or APC....the first thing the squad leader cries out is "when you die come back with AT!". Well folks....if you kill 4 or 5 and they all respawn back as AT and take you out......guess what....you just caused a 4 or 5 ticket bleed from your opponent.
Think about what it takes to WIN THE GAME. If you do that......you will begin to be better at operating the armour assets.
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!

Re: Tank tactics
If you have a decent team with you, holding back can actually do alot more damage than rushing in and usually running over a mine, getting c4'd, rolling into a nest of AT you cant get back out of, running over your own infantry in the heat of battle. Also, it's not very easy for multiple armor pieces to move around together and still provide repairs for each other. But it really depends on the map. If you can stand off at each flag and keep constant pressure on it your guys on foot will take it no problem, the enemy cant focus on both you and the flag takers, if you roll up to the flag capture area you will most certainly die. But again it all comes down to the map, what your team is like and if there is air support flying around. Nothing annoys me more than being in a tank and being told to MOVE!, MOVE!
