    Locked Squads

I just wanted to make sure their is not issue having a locked squad on the server.

I ordered my 11 year old a copy of BF2142 and the only way I can get the misses to agree to let him play on-line is to stick him in a squad and lock it so he doesn't hear anything that would send her into orbit. You figure she would realize he hears worse at school, but you how that goes - you never win those kid of arguments.

Just let me know if it is going to be an issue..

Here are two choices I think will work out.

Either put him in a locked squad with people you/he knows, or you can just disable VoIP so you can't hear anyone talking, but he needs to make sure to tell someone he doesn't have VoIP enabled.

    What he said...

Locked squads are frowned upon, and may cause a problem with those not wise to your situation. Unfortunately, some of us adults cannot control our profanity, including myself of course.

Yeah, turning VOIP off in the Sound options is your best bet. Generally if an admin sees a locked squad, they are going to warn the player to unlock it, then proceed to kick them if they don't.

I'll try disabling the VOIP and see how that goes.

    Re: Locked Squads

I gotta say though, you're going to have some trouble keeping him on TTP with VoIP disabled as a squad leader.

On TTP he will be expected to follow the orders of his commander. Some commanders, myself included, give a lot more verbal orders than in game orders. This can prove to be very difficult (and your son deemed a nonteamplayer and kicked/banned) if he is unable to hear the commander.

Your best bet would be to disable VoIP and have him only join squads, never create his own. That way he can just spawn green, stay with his squad and help out his team.

The chatter is what is fun though.

Seriously though, whenever I hear a kid on VOIP, I make sure I only have clean language

Oh, snap! (where this came from I don't know, but I hear the kids using it a lot lately)

    Re: Locked Squads

In general, if he lets people know that he's a kid, they should have the respect to watch their mouths. If you do turn voip off, just put that into the squad tag area next to his name.

That is a good idea. I plan to be the squad leader so he should not have any issues there..

    Re: Locked Squads

Being a father who's son started playing a little bit ago, I know what your facing. To build on the clan tag idea I would suggest putting "NoVoip11" just to provide some good info for the admins that might be in Command Console as well as those in game.
