Banning for leaving the Commander seat?
What do you guys think about the unwritten rule of banning for leaving the commander seat?
I understand the purpose of the rule from a dedication aspect, but it bothers me from a teamwork and communication aspect.
Case in point:
When I started playing BF2 I enjoyed being the commander. Being in communication with the squad leaders allowed me to learn more about the game and how use the rationed assets.
My most memorable moment as commander was when I left the seat. A squad leader kept putting up votes to kick me from the commander seat. After a few votes I got pissed, quit the commander spot, and joined that squad. I told the squad leader that if he didn't want me in the commander seat then he must stand up and take it.
He did. And he kicked ass. I learned from watching him.
Under the new rule I would have been banned for leaving the commander seat. That makes me not want to be commander ever again.
Someone please answer me this: How does a rule against leaving the commander seat jibe with TTP's principles of letting a team communicate and reorganize itself to face a changing challenge?
It seems to me that the new rule is meant to make newbs miserable and go away.
Sorry, but that is how I feel.

Re: Banning for leaving the Commander seat?
One thing I find extremely frustrating in BF2 is when we have a commander (even if he is not doing that great, or is not as aware as some of our more seasoned vets) and then a little while later he is gone! Suddenly we have no vehicle drops, supplies, or even poorly placed UAV's and Arty strikes.
Also, many people do that because they think they will not win and thus will not get double points. IE: they were doing it for stat padding purposes. They sign in and command, and then when the tide turns and they are not getting their way, they decide to drop commander and go get some other points.
Or, some people go commander just to get themselves some supplies, UAV and an arty strike as they go into an area and then leave the commander seat (this one is rare). This is obviously not being a teamplayer, it is like a commander in a tank.
If someone puts up a vote to kick you, and you leave, they better fill or they should get in trouble, not you.
Someone leaving because of kick votes is like a sucessful mutiny in my eyes. And when you intiate a mutiny that succeeds, you better take the seat. And I imagine that starting a vote that scares the n00b outta the commander slot ought to be treated the same.

Re: Banning for leaving the Commander seat?
I am not a newb in Battlefield 2. Also, i have spent many, many hours starting up the Texas Teamplayers server back in the day, ensuring server intergrity by posting screenshots of rule violaters. But last night, ( this is the first week ive played bf2 in years ) I was banned for ADMIN DISRESPECT; It all started with me Commanding, noticing there was a vechile, and leaving command. KICKED FOR LEAVING OCMMANDER FOR ASSETS. Okay, not a big deal. Came back in and simply stated that it was a stupid rule ; BANNED for admin disrespect. I had not made any personal attacks, i didnt even know who kicked me!!
The rule has its ups and downs, but being the fact that it was only two minutes into the game, i feel I should be able to change my mind about commanding when i notice theres a chopper to fly.
Thanks for reading this.
now GET OUT THERE soldiers!!

Re: Banning for leaving the Commander seat?
If your loosing and because you are an incapable commander, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't leave.
Sure your team is without a commander for a bit but it if you are in a spot that you can do your best in, by all means do it.
IMHO banning for leaving the seat is too situational to be made such.
But in relation to Pete's case, I think this may be a misunderstanding. From what I read pete was banned not for the leaving commander issue, but the admin disrespect for coming back in and argueing the rules.

yes you did, but your opinion belongs in the forum, not the servers where players and admins are busy with their jobs.

It helps keep those players from disrupting the game or filling a slot while not trying to complete an objective (as they are sitting there typing instead).

If it is unwritten, how can it be a bannable offense? Unwritten rules are ideas accepted by the majority, but arent actually written rules of the server.
It's either a rule or it isnt....tired of all this unwritten rule bull shit.
