Congrats on your new medals. Everyone has to start out getting Bronze medals before you can get the Gold. One thing to remember is that by playing all the classes and starting with Bronze Badges, it will make you a more rounded, versatile player and more useful to your team. At least I feel that if I need to go Recon, Support, Assault or Enginner to help my team, I have dabbled in them all to do whatever the squad leader requires in any given situation. Keep up the good work. It will be addicting after awhile.

yeah, sometimes spawn beacons will randomly land you there, if they're close enough to the building. i think the squad leader got dropped up there, then had someone blow up the beacon, and planted a new one on top of the building... because that squad was spawning up there consistently.
I was in a squad that did this... the squad leader placed the beacon next to the building and landed on top of it when he spawned, then we destroyed the old beacon so he could plant a new one on top of the building. It turned the game around because we were in a big hot battle for the flag below the building. The other team hated it... our whole squad rained heavy fire on them from the rooftop, then we parachuted down and capped the flag... this gave us the momentum, and we kept the advantage throughout the game. I didn't think we were cheating, but it didn't seem very fair. This happens sometimes in Belgrade, when you can set up an effective sniper team on top of the buildings; and I have even seen it happen in Cerbere Landing.

Damn that font is hard to read.

Anyways, I do this all the time on Belgrade and Fall of Berlin. Drop a beacon, fishtail so you get on a roof, have squad destroy beacon, then you're generally set. If I can do that on the building north of crossroads, barring an orbital strike, my squad will not be dislodged. Ever.

I disagree about having 6 snipers up there, though. That's highly ineffective. Get some assault and HMGs, and you can rip through people (nothing like a rocket to the wall west of crossroads to get you a combat efficiency pin).

It's not really an exploit in that it's possible to do that with just the basic mechanics of the game, since spawning at a squad beacon places you randomly within a specific distance of the beacon itself. It can be a very tactical method of defending a flag, but it's not fool proof. Orbital strikes can help cleanse a roof, as can Assault kits with AR Rockets.

But it's definitely a good tactic to tie up a ton of opponents trying to pick you off. Best thing to do when faced with people doing this is to just move on to another flag. They have to come down off that roof to be of any further use to their team eventually.

On that note...

Hey, Jeff! Go tell Krueluck about that time on Monorail when we had a beacon on top the building ^_^ I believe madcat was there, and you seemed irate about something he was doing >.>

Oh yes I remember. Spent the whole round going back and forth over monorail and you guys wouldn't go away no matter how many we killed. Figured you had a beacon either on a building or monarail track and wanted to bypass and move on to Square etc, but Madknifer was obsessed with finding your beacon and getting knifekills only.

Madhat was squad leader otherwise if I was leading we would cap other flags and let you keep Monorail. You have to come off the building some time if you want more flags.

my favorite is when roofers just camp up there doing little more than getting a couple kills and losing the round for their team!

GO ROOFERS!

No, those guys suck. Roofs are nice to have a beacon on so you have somewhere safe to pod in to, but then you should be moving on the flag.

Don't be hatin.

Re: bf2142 screenies...

I remember a round a couple nights ago where a squad on the enemy titan lost both sides of Leipzig by getting on roofes and not getting anything done.
It kicked ass

Re: bf2142 screenies...

I was at Bridge at Ramagen and the enemy were flocking to the roofs, so I just kept wiping them out with artillery.. we ended up with all the silos and then it was easy to board and destroy thier Titan, and yea, we just let them have the one silo... I guess that roofs are better on some maps than others. Sometimes at Bridge at Ramagen I start off landing on a roof and dropping a beacon, then I park the chopper on a roof across the river so we have quick access to the silos on both sides... :10
