Trying to get back to BF2

I've caught the BF2 bug again which I haven't played in over a year and I miss playing with all you guys and gals, so I tried to load the game back on my PC. But it won't work. I installed the game with my original copy, BF2 & Special Forces (5 CD's). I then installed patch 1.41 and then installed 1.5. When I installed the 1.5 patch I got an error message that said something like "Corrupt CAB file in original file, contact your software provider". I had the option to: "retry", "cancel" or "ignore". I tried "retry" a few times which didn't work so I opted with "ignore". The rest of the 1.5 patch installed after that.

In single player mode the game CTD after I've selected the map and it tries to load the map/game. In multiplayer I can select the TTP server but does the same thing when the map/game tries to load.

The actual question in this long winded post is, is the "CAB fault" (whatever that is) in my BF2 installation CD's and I should just go buy a new one or is the fault in my 1.5 patch file?

Any help would be appreciated. Looking forward to playing with you all soon.

Buy the DVD version, it's only $10. Install it on your computer. Install patch. Double click on BF2 icon. Login. Join multiplayer. Locate TTP. Join server. Once you get in join "RICO" squad. The rest is history!

When I reinstall BF2, which I'll probably do with a new DVD, do I have to install the 1.41 patch and then the 1.5? Or can I just install the 1.5? I think I read somewhere that I have to do both...

I bought a new copy of BF2 today. I'm going to uninstall what's on my PC and then reinstall the game and then the patches and then cross my fingers. I hope to be ready to play by the weekend.

I hope to see you all inside soon!

Re: Trying to get back to BF2

It appears that I've been able to load the game successfully, I didn't get any errors with my new copy of BF2 or when I installed 1.41 and 1.5. But the game still crashes when I go to start a game in single player or multi-player. In single player I'll click on the map and hit start and I'll get the "server loading" message and then it CTD. Same thing after I hit the TTP server. Any ideas? Below is what I've done so far:

    Updated Punkbuster
    Updated Active X
    Reinstalled the game (again)
Changed hardware acceleration per this website: http://www.ngohq.com/games/8996-bf2-...start-fix.html

Still, it doesn't work? Any ideas?

Video drivers? Maybe your antivirus is shutting it down? How about the firewall?

It points to the last two, only because it crashes when you try to join an online server.....worth checking anyway.

Try turning your firewall and a/v completely off....then join the server. If it works, then there is the problem.
