    Gunner tutorial.

There are some important tips to keep in mind when applying what you learn here to the game. Spot everything! This will make it a lot easier for the pilot, even if you’re in the same squad. Be observant and look out for enemy helos, AA's, etc. When you get in the helo, press the 'c' key. That will remove the nose of the chopper blocking some of your view. Try turning your mouse sensitivity up, this will make your shots a lot more accurate (In-game, 2.40) (Mouse, 1000 DPI, Logitech G9x). Bring down the console (~key) and type: gamelock.fps 0. That will not limit bf2's FPS to 100, and will give the TV crosshair a 'smoother' feel. Some settings I prefer to use are that all graphics categories are on high, except for Lighting (low), Dynamic Shadows (off), and Dynamic Lighting (low) and Anti Aliasing is on 8x

    Important Tips:

    • Spot everything! This will make it alot easier for the pilot, even if your in the same squad.
    • Be observant, look out for enemy helos, AA's, etc.
    • When you get in the helo press the 'c' key, that will remove the nose of the chopper blocking some of your view.
    • Try turning your sensitivity up your mouse, this will make your shots alot more accurate.
    • Bring down the console (~key) and type gamelock.fps 0, that will not limit bf2's FPS to 100, and will give the TV crosshair a 'smoother' feel.

    Target Priority:
    1) Attack Choppers / 'Fattys'
    2) AA of any kind
    3) FAV's
    4) Hard Targets (tanks, APC's etc.)
    5) Jets / Infantry

    Graphics:
All are on high except for Lighting (medium), Dynamic Shadows (off), and Dynamic Lighting (medium).

    The TV:
CLICK! The only way you are going to be successful with the TV is if you keep clicking, weather your target be a tank, mobile, jet, chopper, boat, etc. On average I click anywhere from 3-6 times deepening on the target. Don't exit the TV screen, until your target is destroyed, or you are 100% sure that you can't make the shot. Tanks and other hard targets are very easy to hit.. But some people have trouble hitting jets and choppers.

Choppers: Aim where the chopper WAS. Don't try to aim in-front of the chopper, or predict where to place the TV, because that doesn't work. Just aim where it was. When the chopper is sitting still, or barley moving it's just as easy as hitting a tank. Which brings me on to something a bit more challenging...

Hitting the chopper on a roll:
I like to aim for the missiles that are on the side of the helo, or the underbelly of the chopper, but the missiles seem to register better.
Here is a chopper in a roll, aim for the red 'x' and you should get a kill... Remember aim where the chopper was, but at the same time go for the 'x' (just have to get the feel).

and your result should look something like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9DaSCYAIN4

Another example would be when the chopper is going to the side on a "tilt"...
Again aim for the red 'x'

    result:

Jets: Jets, the funnest thing to shoot down with a TV, also one of the easiest (yes, not difficult). If the jet is approaching you head on, aim a right in-front of the windshield of the jet, that's the only place I can get a solid registration. Hit the red 'x' (below). And that goes for all jets, hit that place and you should get a kill.

    (image found here: http://wiki.bf2s.com/vehicles/aviator/f-35)
When the jet is going away from you, try to put the TV right up the engine of the jet that should get you a kill. Also, the hardest jet to hit (front & back) is the F-18, due to how pointy the jet is.

    The Chaingun:
If you are aiming at infantry aim at the ground right below them, don't try to aim the the infantry's head or chest, because that won't work. Now here comes to the more difficult task of aiming.. If the chopper is rotating to the left, aim to the right of the target. And if the chopper is rotating to the right, aim left of the target, not too much though. You'll eventually get the feel of it. Notice in the picture below, the chopper is rotating to the left, but I am aiming to the right of the target...

Here's a video showing you: (not the best, I know... Good example around 10seconds into the video)

In this tutorial we have hit on all topics pertaining to gunning from a chopper. This includes various tips I have observed to be valuable in game play, actual video from the game to give you a direct perspective on the elements explained throughout the tutorial, target priorities and suggested game settings for the smoothest play.

    Happy Gunning!

Nice tutorial. Let me add that aiming the tv toward the tail end of an enemy attack helo will bring success. Reis, you are an outstanding gunner but I also consider you one of the top TTP attack helo pilots. I have had some of my better rounds as a gunner while you were piloting. Just ask Steve and visuvius. :9

    Nice ... but uh ...

What do you mean by "aim"?
In the pics and videos, the crosshairs are nowhere near the red X.
Or do you mean keep the target within the target box?

From the vids, it doesn't look like you are aiming where the target "WAS" but where you are predicting it will be aka 'leading'.

    Thx.

    Re: Gunner tutorial.

I am assuming he suggests aiming at the chopper to get the missile off the rail, then leading it to align the xhairs of your TV missile with his "red x." That's what I do if it's a closer engagement or they are taking evasive action (spins/rolls/etc). Except if I know it will be a long shot I lead the chopper upon initial firing, to get the maximum range kill.

For instance if chopper is at your 10 oclock position (ahead and to your left) and it is flying left to right across your screen, I almost always fire the TV missile straight ahead initially (lead the target), of course the angle changes based on the enemy chopper's speed and distance from yours. But normally the chopper will "fly into" your missle (this part all assumes they don't see you yet)

Cause I still had to guide the TV to the target...
