I like the feel of BF2 better, but I like the versatility in 2142.
You also have to realise that CSS and BF are totally diffrent animals. CSS is more like an arena, quick fight sort of game. BF games are more like "battle simulators". Yeah! that is what I will call them. Many times you may go 5+ minutes without seeing an enemy but you can still win the game for your team without firing a shot.
But personally I enjoy the teamplay aspect of the BF franchise more than on CSS. If you get an awesome commander/squadleader you can really get a depth of the tactics. It relies less on "knowing the calls" and more on following objectives in a rolling ever changing battlefield. The trick is adaptability. No two battles are ever close to the same.
Some tips and tricks.
Shooting on the run = you miss and die.
First person to Crouch(2142)/Hit-the-deck(BF2), zoom-in, shoot usually wins the engagement.
Learn to fly in single player. Try helos, jets, transports, gunships. If you're good at them great! if not learn to use Armor and FAV's.
Start off playing a supporting class. I love support on BF2 (PKM = <3) and Assault on 2142 (assault class is doubles as medic. Very cool.) Help your teammates by passing out ammo and health and in turn you get points for more unlocks faster.
2142 unlocks.... well try to get the defibrillator and advanced medbox first. then work on getting your sprint and endurance boosters. Hell you even have to unlock frag grenades.
BF2 unlocks: Go with your strengths. Like to snipe? Get the M95 and kill those helo pilots. Love to play medic? Get the L85A1 (my personal favorite scoped gun)
No matter what you pick, anyone from either comunity will be more than willing to help you along with more in depth advice. All you have to do is ask.
