Word of advice on 1.5 patch download!

It's going to be a kind of long story (because I'm a woman) and some of us just like to put all the details in!! haha!

I've had a new built in computer since Sept. (new vid card, motherboard, cpu, the works)... The only thing I didn't have was a hard drive which I bought one and had it installed into my computer in Oct. 12th. I download all the necessary windows updates and all and started to download BF2, 1.4 patch and then 1.5 patch through hypernia link. For some reason, I messed up somewhere. I heard that downloading that patch was through a torrent and don't know anything about them, so I somehow downloaded the torrent application as well. After seeing my last internet statement for Oct. - Nov. Well I surpassed the internet usage and was charged a little more for it. I'm allowed 30 gigs per month. So I called the internet co. asking questions about it because I don't see myself using so much internet like that and had a few responses which to me didn't make any sense, such as (torrent app. limewire etc)... I said that I have no such things installed in to my computer.

So, I thought it was my wireless router which I removed last week but still I felt there was activity going on from my computer, wasn't sure about it. So I checked the internet usage via my internet website and from Nov. to Dec. I was already at 48 gigs... WTF?? So I called up my internet co. again and said there's no way I'm using so much bandwith and how much more will I have to pay for this shit... They said 50$ more to my statement. Now this alerted me big time. I looked through my processes and seen btdna.exe and started to search for it. Yep, a torrent running on my processes. Ouch! After alot of investigation, I notice a program in my add/remove names DNA (it's a blue Icon). I really thought it was part of my motherboard or something else. But no... it's a torrent application. That means people were downloading the patch through me and using my bandwith for that. Oh My God! So I removed it from add/remove. I remember complaining in the past that I had no registry while gaming and was very pissed about it. After all 850$ upgrade and no registry? But since I removed that torrent application now I can finally see what my computer can really do FINALLY!!!

So just be aware and don't be stupid like me... make sure you DO NOT download the torrent application or else you will have problems.

I'm posting this in BF2 forum because it's regarding the 1.5 patch and I really want people to see this so they are aware of this.

Just get it off of Steam. As much as I didn't want to buy a game I already owned again, I did anyway, and have had zilcho problems since. No PB issues (unless I try to run Xfire at the same time.. that's my only bone of contention), no issues with the 1.5 patch. Nada.

I've had some corrupted file issues with the Steam release of BF2. So I've gotten into the habit of checking the integrity and updating PB manually every time I start it out of Steam. The Xfire thing is extremely unfortunate. May be something the Xfire devs can take to PB...

The odd thing is that Xfire works perfectly fine with the store-bought CD(or DVD)Rom version. The problem occurs when you have the Steam Overlay enabled and are running Xfire at the same time.. remove one of those elements and it generally runs fine.

Actually, I have had a few of the "Unmoddified Content" kicks.. not sure where that comes from, but a reboot solves it, and I was getting those with the DVDRom version anyway.

The "unmodified content" kick comes from having a quick machine. You load things faster on your end,and PB sees this as some sort of problem....and boom. It happens to quite a few of us.

Also, you really don't need to re-boot. All you do is go out of your favorites, and update them a couple of times (this insures you don't get the rank or unlocks glitch) and re-join through your favorites list.

Dex - if you uncheck the autoload or autoready feature, do you still get unmodified content kicks?

Re: Word of advice on 1.5 patch download!

Anyone tried messing with the pb_sleep parameter?

By default, PunkBuster checks files every 20 seconds... You can tweak this in the game console to a max of 500 seconds. Values over 500 seconds are not accepted. I've seen several tweaking articles that indicate you should do this. It's totally legal/legit to change this value.

Once connected to a server, bring up the console using the backtic (`) character.

    type: pb_sleep 500
    then: pb_writecfg
