Best place to hit armor using AT

figured AT is the all around most useful class, so i recently started tryin to master it (yes, i am lookin for a flame war. pls scream and rant. i enjoy it. especially the gaymore usin snipers out there).

but.. one thing i can't figure out is where the best place to hit armor is. i know it isn't all the same cause i've been in an APC with full health and some dork meister blows it up with one single eryx shot. it usually takes 2-3 hits for me.

not sure if someone's done like a faq on this already with screen shots but that would be something useful for alotta people here. be happy to oblige if i actually knew any better.

side note: most useful thing i've learn recently is that 1/2 the time you're better off not doing a right click to aim. it takes way too long and u can still control the rocket a lil even if u don't use the aim.

APCs take 2 ATs anywhere to blow it up. Tanks, while the damage can be inconsistent even though you hit the same spot, will usually take 3 or 4 or sometimes even 5.

The best spot to hit a tank are the treads. Hitting the upper part, especially the back end, will end up doing only like 5 bars. Hitting the tread, such as the parts angling up or down on either side, will do the most damage I think. Hitting the front or rear tread angles with a TOW is a one hit kill.

APCs always take two, if you die by one then you are most likely hit by a TOW.

On a few rare occasions {like 2 or 3 times} I've actually managed to one shot the APC, you have to hit it in the back door. It's almost like a perfect hit, don't ask me, I can't reproduce it at will. I have confirmed that at least 2 of those shots have been against an APC with full health. If I knew how I was doing it, I'd try for the shot more often.

Yeah ive been trying to find that 1 shot on the apc's with no luck so far but i know its there. I've had it done to me far to many times. I have taken tanks out with 2 shots but most of the times it takes 3. I cant give the exact spot but its the treads somewhere around center. I also never paid enough attention to see if it was the same side hit. I'll have to spend some time figuring out those.

Below are some photos of the armor currently used in BF2. The pictures are a little dated so I don't know if the hitboxes changed at all.

Tank hit boxes
Tank treads or turret is the most critical tactic hear.

On the Hummer, hitting the main body is your best bet.

Notice the LAV has no particular weak spots, just hitting the LAV anywhere will deal equivalent damage.

Notice on the moblie AA the weakest part on the vehicle is the tread.

Best place to hit tanks is on the very tips of the tracks at the front, 2 shot = boom. 1 on the tip of the track and pretty much anywhere else = tank on fire. 2 shots in the back = tank on fire.

For APC's I really can't figure it out as I have been one shoted many times mostly in the side.

I think I can safely say APC one shots do not exist. What happens and is much more common is that two rockets hit at the same time or as the APC runs over a mine your rocket steals the kill.

On occation I've also seen damage APC's not smoke....so they look full strength...and full health APC's showing smoke as if they were.

Tanks used to be one shot killable but they changed that sometime ago.

Well then there must be a hack for it. I've been under uav with 1 enemy and 1 shotted. The likely hooh of 2 impacts at the same time coming from outside uav range is pretty low.

Are you kidding? A APC can be hit from way out of UAV range. As long as I can see a dot moving I can get a shot off on it.

No one on this server, and very few people, have killed more APCs then me. I HAVE NEVER KILLED A APC .....ONE SHOT.

Tank= Yes
Helo= NO
Hummer/Vodnik= Yes
Boat= Yes
FAV= Yes
Jet= Yes
Kelderos= Yes

I will be more then happy to test this with anyone who feels like I am wrong. We will hop on a dead server you AT....me engineer/commander and you can nail every gastank, door hatch, tire, gun...ect...you want. You wont kill it in one shot.

Thats not what i said. I know you can hit an apc from outside uav range. We've all done that. I'm saying the likely hood of 2 shots hitting at the same time from outside uav range that dont have 2 seperate impact noises in unlikely. To many times i have been one shotted by people who are not regs. I will be more than happy to test any theories as to the possiblity of making it happen. I think you will find that you will always hear 2 impacts.
