Asset Squads and Locked Squads
Please don't flame me for starting a topic on this, but I do have a genuine question. I did a search for the topic on "Asset Squads" and found a thread from back in May of 2009 that was subsequently locked. My question is, does TTP have a rule on reserving assets by squad name? I ask this, because I saw this yesterday on the TTP server.
I wasn't trying to take assets or anything like that, but I tried to join some squads and they were all locked up. This was on the Kashan map around 2 AM ET on TTP lastnight. There were only two open INF squads that were full, and the rest were locked squads. One was labeled Apache, Heli and so on. My question is why are the squads locked? I was not familiar with how to join a locked squad, luckily someone later told me, you just have to ask. But I started an INF squad of my own, because there wasn't a squad to join. Now here is the question, I mean, I understand that it's courtesy if a squad calls themselves Apache and then reserves the right to fly the apaches. There wasn't any problem with them or the Heli squad, as the Heli squad was willing to transport troops from the main US base out to the field, and they did a fine job of it. But how does one such as myself learn to fly or learn the ropes of flying, if I don't get a chance because the squads are locked? I just would like to see the squads be more open and friendly, that's all.
Oh yeah, I also ask, because some other player tried to take the Apaches and that started up a firestorm. I know there probably weren't any Admins on at 2 AM in the morning, but does TTP have a rule like that? Why or why not? I'm new, so I don't have any reason to be for or against it, the only thing I noticed is that, on other servers and at other times I've played, transportation is a lot easier if they are individuals dedicated to the sole purpose of transport and so forth.

Re: Asset Squads and Locked Squads
If you don't know how to fly I would say learn to fly at a training server or something. I know they are many people that are just willing to talk you through the basics. Spend some time practicing and training up a little bit before you take it to the battlefield.
If there is one thing I dislike is going in and stacking up in a full Huey and getting ready to take off only having the pilot flip us over during take off or crash us hard into the ground or into a building effectively wasting an asset hindering our transport and supplies and killing us all in the process.
I know you can't get the full experience of a game on a training server but it will give you a chance to learn the ropes. Afterwords you can take it to the real games.
And as for the lock squads...It frustrates me when squads are locked especially on a full server. I understand if it is specifically a role that you are playing but do so only when it is needed. There is very little point in locking up a two man infantry squad just because both of the people there are buddies.

Learning to fly in single player or on another server will keep you from getting shit from people but there is no rule saying you cant do it on TTP. I never flew before i got to TTP and im doing ok. I just dont tolerate the bs in game from those that wish to cry about someone else could do it better. It goes both ways you can learn some where else and those that like to cry can fly some where else.
As long as your trying to help your team then you are within the rules of the server. More specific to your questions like it was said before you can name your squad almost anything you want but it in no way means if you name it MIG SQUAD that your even going to get an air asset much less the mig. As for the locked squads well it isnt against the rules unless for a couple reasons that the commander and or admins will tell you to unlock it. Doesn't happen often but it does happen.

Naming a squad after an asset on a TTP server will NEVER mean that squad has the only right to that asset. All assets are first come first serve, no lines or bullshit asset calling with a squad name because someone else doesn't have a system faster than yours. If anyone ever tells you otherwise, take screenshots and report the person(s).
